Hi all: I used to be able to remote Admin my RTP300 as of just a couple days ago but now I cannot. I had and still have changed the default port and am using the correct (changed) port but I can't access the Admin page any more. Any ideas? Thanks. |

It probably depends on how you're connected. Is it connected to another router? With DHCP? Can you verify that the router hasn't changed the assigned IP address for the RTP300?
In your shoes I would connect to a LAN port on the RTP300 and verify that the settings haven't reverted to the default, and double check the assigned address. |

I just went through something similiar. It seems with the newest units, you have to enable it in a certain order directly after a factory reset...or any reboot just turns remote admin function back off. It took me a few times to get it to "stick".

The RTP300 is directly connected to my Cable Modem and my settings have not changed for a few days. Each time I make a change I have been backing up the settings so maybe I could go to a previous version of my settings and try that. The only change I could think that I made was the addition of an Apple AirPort to one of my RTP300 ports. When I check my settings the Remote Access is still set to enabled. |

Well thats different than my issue. Mine was actually disabling itself after a reboot.
Is your airport blocking port 8080, or the port you chose? It seems the best practice around here (and what I finally did) is to put your RTP300 box last in the chain, as it's a pretty poor router. Have you tried directly connecting your airport to the cable modem and plugging the RTP3000 into the airport? |

So, what you are trying to do is administer your router from the Internet? If your RTP300 is plugged directly into your cable modem, then the only reason for having "remote access" turned on is to allow administration of the router from the Internet. I would advise against this, since it leaves an open port for hackers to find you.
It's very probable that your ISP is blocking access. Many cable providers have provisions against running "servers" on your Internet connection, and remote admin of your router would probably be interpreted as a "server" by their firewalls.
Of course, you also have to be making the connection attempt from some other Internet connection, and using your public, routable IP address followed by the port number. |

Yes, I am trying to administer from the internet, I know this leaves me open to attack but I have changed the standart port number in hopes that this will help prevent a hack. Also, I use OS X 10.4.x on 2 of 3 computers.
I am just confused as to why it would work one day and not the next. I will try some things when I am back at home and maybe get a better idea, the trouble is, I can't test it as I am on my local network and am already able to log into the admin page!
Thanks. |

Ahh...you didnt say you were trying from the "outside". Get a port scanner like Advanced Port Scanner and do a scan to see what ports your ISP is blocking. It could have nothing to do with you or your setup. |
