I am vonage newbie and not computer savvy. I have a standard issue RCA cable modem connected to standard issue Vonage Linksys Router connected to a new Belkin 7231-4 wireless router.
The Belkin is new because the older SMC router was PAINFULLY slow or didn't get online at all. Now the Belkin is PAINFULLY slow or my Mac laptop doesn't pick-up a signal at all. The internet DOES work when I plug directly to the ethernet cable coming from the Linsys router or jump on one of the other networks on my block.
Is there a specific set up task I need to do here?
Should I send the Belkin back and if so, what should I get instead?
The Belkin tech support is similar to Vonage tech support-friendly but does not speak English and they admit they don't know anything about Mac's.
Should I upgrade my cable modem?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks |

This may be a silly question, but did you reboot your entire setup when you installed the Belkin router? |

At this point, there are no silly questions. I resarted my computer, I also pulled the power on the cable modem, waited 10 seconds then replugged. I am guessing that is not what you meant by reboot. What is the best way to reboot the whole system? Just turn it all off and then back on?
I am getting intermittent signal from the Belkin, but it says there is an error in joining the network. Perhaps I need to get an Apple Airport Extreme router.
Thanks for taking the time to reply. |

I would pull the power to all your network and plug back in this way\\
Modem>>>Belkin>>>Vonage.
Also. access the Belkin router setup at 198.168...something and disable the firewall and DMZ.
I have the Belkin FD7230-4 and had connection issues and by doing the above I have not have a single connection issue. |

Actually, since his hookup is Modem>>>Vonage>>>Belkin, the units should be powered back on in that sequence. Always start with the modem, than with about 60 second delays, power on the units in the order in which they're connected to the modem. |
