PostPosted: Sat Apr 15, 2006 8:42 am    Post subject: Router keeps leasing the same IP to Linksys RTP300 Reply with quote Back to top

I have several computers connected to my modem through a router (a D-Link DI-524), and a LinkSys Ethernet switch. I've had also a Vonage RTP300 for months, and it has never shown any problem. One day, suddenly, the RTP300 would not give me a dial tone anymore. I've been looking into all sorts of troubleshooting, with no answer. I hope I can find one here. This is my situation in bits:

- My internet works just fine
- I have no dial tone, nor any internet connection, if connected through the RTP300
- I cannot load the page 192.168.15.1
- Checking the traffic through the router, I can see in the router log that once I reconnect the RTP300, the router keeps leasing (about every 25 seconds) the same IP to the RTP300. Again, and again.

Do you have any idea how to reacquire a dial tone on this RTP300?
Thanks

power down the modem and rtp. then power on the modem, then the rtp, with the rtp directly connected to the modem.
what are the lights on the rtp doing? and are you trying to connect to 192.168.15.1 with a computer directly plugged into the rtp? if not, try that.
also give some more details such as listed in the "read here before you post to save everyone time" sticky which is the very first post on the page.

Ok, sorry for the delay. I tried the setup you describe to me, and the result is the same I have described in my post. Specifically, the lights on the RTP are: power light on, internet light on, phone light off. Once every 25-30 seconds, I see all ethernet lights blinking for a second or two, and then back to the beginning. No dial tone.

A few mode details:
- location: Northeast US
- ISP: modem Comcast DCM425C, router D-Link DI-524 as I described in the post. The wireless is enabled, but all connections now are wired.
- Setup: currently it is modem -> router -> Vonage
- The issue hasn't changed. Even after connecting the vonage RTP directly to the modem and rebooting, I have no dial tone.

if you still can't connect after plugging a computer directly into the rtp300, I would say it sounds dead.

Have you tried pushing the reset button on the back yet? Hold it in for about 20 seconds or so, and it will default back to original settings.

Hi,
Yes, tried the reset button a few times, for as long as 30-45 seconds, but with no significant change. An internet browser cannot see the 192.168.15.1 page.
