hi! I currently have a wireless network at home. I have a Belkin Wireless G router. I have 2 computers on my network. My question is this: Can I use the VT2442? Or do I HAVE to get the Linksys WRTP54G because it has wireless built in? I have been trying to understand by looking at the installation diagrams, and it seems I can just plug the VT2442 right into my existing wireless router; however, I am wondering if it will work if I do not have a computer directly attached to it. Can someone shed some light on this for me? : ) Thank you! Jennifer |

You most certainly can use your Belkin router. I currently use the Belkin Wireless G router with the following config.
Modem>>>>>>Belkin>>>>>>>>Phone Adapter
Run ethernet from modem to WAN of Belkin and ethernet from one of the LAN ports of the Belkin to the WAN port of the phone adapter.
Being that you have a Belkin router I would access the admin page of the Belkin and disable the firewall and DMZ. This should keep your setup more stable and excellent QOS. |

Thank you for your reply, however that didn't really answer my question. I don't doubt I can use my belkin router; my question is whether I can use the VT2442? In the setup diagrams it says one computer must be directly attached to he VT2442. That will not be the case since I have a wireless network. Can I still use the VT2442 then? Or do I have to get the wireless router Vonage offers? Thank you. |

you don't have to have the VT connected directly to a computer. You would use your existing wireless network setup. Having to connect the VT directly to a computer most likely is only to access the admin. controls of the VT. Just connect the VT directly behind the Belkin router and plug in a phone and you should be ready to go. |

The only reason you would ever need a computer attached to the VT2442 would be if you needed to configure it for some reason, then you'd temporarily plug a computer into it.
The VT2442 should do just fine as a standalone device on your existing router. |
