Business has Cisco IAD2400 that terminates T1 (1.544Mbs) Connected directly to 24port switch. Switch serves 3-5 Vonnage phones, two servers, approx 16 workstations. Everything is connected directly to switch over Cat5e.
Vonnage Phones are serviced by 2 ea RPT300 (Linksys) and 1 RP31P2. My understanding is that these are DSL modems, but the company does NOT have any DSL connections.
Severe voice degradation is being experienced when all devices (voice and data) are in operation.
1) Are the Linksys devices appropriate? Is there something better? 2) Is there a better configuration? (i.e. QoS bandwidth contention appears to be at the Cisco Router not on the individual links to the Vonnage phones.) 3) How much bandwidth should be dedicated to handle the Vonnage connections? 4) Any other thoughts that might help?!
Thanks |

What sort of upload speed do you have? With 16 workstation being served you'd need somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.5Mps-2.0Mps upload speed to have stability with your phone connections. |

Well, if it is a real T1, then it is 1.544 MPBS up and down. |

Full T1 Service (1.544Mbps)
Have some worries about choke point since problem occurs when all workstations are active.
Was initially worried about the config and whether the devices mentioned were appropriate without a DSL type connection. What am I missing?
Would another choice of phone device be more appropriate behind a router? P2P etc? |

The Vonage adapters are not DSL devices. They'll work with DSL, cable, T!, and so forth. Your choice of devices looks fine to me. Whether your T1 connection can handle the load of all those phones and work stations and deliver the performance you want is another issue. Assuming that good quality voice is a priority, you might want to invest in a good router that can provide good QoS prioritizing to run your network. |
