We are being bombarded by Time Warner in our area to get Voip through them; and Vonage says they cannot port numbers here at all.
What is wrong with this picture? Well, for starters, I bought a Linksys Voip ready router to hang out with my others, but so far it is of no use to me. I won't even get a discount for buying it over the shelf, because it has been too long. When I bought it, I was told that Bell South had so many days (I think 90) to license the numbers, but they were just stretching things here; clear out to the last day. Anyway, on this misguided info I bought a new Voip router that might as well be a brick, and it looks like if I want to go with Voip it is going to have to be with Time Warner.
Anyone out there know who is dragging their feet or the accuracy of Time Warner's actual presence in the 318 area code would be appreciated. If someone at Vonage would care to comment on why they haven't picked up service in my area as well I would welcome it.
I am going to forward a similar post to Vonage, but it seems sometimes people a bit on the outside know more than those from within.
Thanks Regards, dwire |

As far as Vonage, you don't need to get a local number to get service. You can pick any area code you want. But, of course, your next door neighbor won't be able to call you as a local call. |

Yes I am aware I can get a number in Harlem if I wanted it, but then as you pointed out the guy across the street would have to dial me long distance. I was hoping for a more intuitive answer than that. Perhaps I should have stated I WANT TO PORT MY CURRENT NUMBER TO Vonage.

Apologies, you did imply that in your post and I missed it. |
