PostPosted: Tue Apr 11, 2006 8:53 pm    Post subject: Bellsouth number transfer issue. Reply with quote Back to top

I signed with Vonage last Wednesday. Vonage stated it would be a MINIMUM of 10 to 14 days for my number to be transferred from Bellsouth. Yesterday, my Bellsouth line went dead. No one can call me unless they know my virtual number (which of course no one has). Vonage says they haven't received permission from Bellsouth YET to use my phone number.

BOTTOM LINE: I can NOT receive calls.

Help!

I was on SBC before switching to Vonage. It was exactly 14 days before I was able to use my SBC phone number through Vonage. Moreover, I believe my service with SBC had been disabled for a day or so before it became active with Vonage. In the meantime, I simply used my cell phone or the Vonage "virtual number".

Vonage has slapped me with a virtual number and an extra bill to pay for last 4 months. They have not yet transfered my Bellsouth number and conitinue to bill for a virtual number that is no good, since no one knows about it and is very temporary.

Every time I call customer service, they admit its a mistake and will be fixed and meanwhile I am being billed every month by Bell and Vonage both. Which is very unfair, as Vonage since it has my credit card information continues to do this with no regards to my complaints on net and to their customer service reps in india. This is really like fraudulently charging my credit card every month, but Vonage is too big for indvidual customers like me to do anything.

I hope who ever reads this mail from Vonage can think of what if someone asked them to pay an extra mortgage for a house they do not live in, will they pay it? or more importantly what if they can't afford to pay it...

I have been billed for 4 months for service and charged twice for a device that works terribly (wi-fi phone). Consequently I don't even use Vonage and they keep billing me.

I just hope they could refund my money and return this device.... and I never go back to this problem again....

Your truely,

Mohit Vij

My problem was with Bellsouth, not Vonage.

Bellsouth disconnected me, but had not given Vonage permission to port the number. I has Bellsouth recoonect me until the port was done.

The day the port went through to Vonage, everything worked fine AND on the day Vonage promised.

That's good. However did you have to pay 4 months of double bills? As I understand it is the onus of Vonage to either take care of the transfer in timely manner or at least inform the customer to take an action. Neither was done in my case.
I should not be made to pay two bills for their incompetency.

No, my transfer was done within the promised 2 weeks. So, no, I'm not paying 4 months of bills.
