Hello - I have searched the various forums on this site and while some people have the same issues as I have, none of the answers provided seem to fit my scenario so perhaps I can solicit more help.
New user- 2 accounts. I have 1 account-my wife the second. Consequently Vonage provided 2 routers. I opted for the WRTP54G for my account and the std. RT31P2 for the wifes.I have configured my network as follows :
cable modem-----WRTP54G |-----PC |----------------------RT31P2 |-----my line |------wifes line
My question is - are there any settings I should be using on either router (static ip addresses ,QoS , PPPoE ) etc because I do not really fully understand any of it yet. The above setup seems to work as I can call out on either phone and receive calls-however my internet speed has totally gone away - it is slower than dialup it seems. Also, on either phone I can hear a dial tone however when making an outgoing call I cannot hear the line dialed ringing. Only static until the other number is reached and is answered. SO it seems the default settings on the routers works ok-except my internet speed is really bad - and the outgoing ringer is not working- I am hoping there is some easy workarounds to try for these issues? |

You have several issues. The first thing I would do is move this post from the hard wiring forum to the Voip forum. That way more of the people most qualified to help will see it. Second, post the technical details that you'll find in the sticky post at the top of that forum. That way we'll have a bit more to go on. One of the most important things will be the test call to Boston at www.testyourvoip.com .
A couple of other things. Are you running any intensive data transfer programs? Have you tried temporarily connecting just the RT31P2 to the modem? If you do that, does that line work properly? |

has2bezier,
do you know what speeds your service claims in terms of both upload and download speeds? That would be a good place to start. |

I actually ended up rebooting my cable modem, and with the setup I described above I actually am able to send & receive calls on both lines with good audio quality and my internet seems to be restored to an accetable level- though not quite as well as with just the modem straight into my pc. I did the Voip test on the homepage and found I should be able to do 4 Vonage connections. So , until I get comfortable monkeying around for now I am happy it is working. However my wife cannot send a fax on her line. I shall do some research on this - any input on this is appreciated as well. |

with faxing, people have said that reducing the speed to 9600 is helpful and dialing *99 before the number. |
