Hi to everyone:

My Netgear wireless router that was originally coupled with my Vonage PAP2 died after about 9 months of service. I believe it had some overheating issues as part of its design but did give good Vonage connection service though.

I bought a new wireless router (Linksys WRT54GX4) and had much difficulty getting this to work with the Vonage PAP2. The problems were that the sound quality was poor - Packets were dropping off making two-way communications impossible. Their tech support worked on this and finally saying it was a Vonage problem. Vonage Tech Support changed Bandwidth, Codec and other settings without success - frustrating to say the least.

I came across another site that mentioned the new Linksys Firmware for this unit that would solve many Vonage / Linksys problems. The fix to this is to download and install the latest firmware from Linksys for this Wireless router. Firmware 1.00.15 just came out this past week and has solved my issues with Vonage packets. It is working like a charm!

Thought I would let those know who may encounter the same issues.

JohnK,
I upgraded mine from 1.00.10 to 1.00.15 and found that it actually broke my Vonage. Before all you have to do is toggle the firewall off, then back on and it works till the router is rebooted. However, when I upgraded to 1.00.15, Vonage would drop if the firewall was on.

Do you port forward (linksys recommended) from the WRT54GX4 to the Vonage Router to get it to work?

I had the same experience as JohnK so let me try and help.

I don't port forward and I don't have my Vonage device setup in the DMZ.

I upgraded with a simple firmware upgrade and it did not help. I turned the setting on and off and I was still getting the choppy voice. I was able to confirm that this was a DoS problem by turning on the DoS log.

Someone else noted that you need to do a hard reset of the GX4 in order for it to fix the problems.

I snagged this from linksysinfo.org and it is what I did. If you are interested, here is a link to the thread.

=======
FYI, I stand corrected. Actually 1.00.13 DOES fix the Vonage issue, but you MUST do a master reset, otherwise it will seem like it doesn't.

To do a master reset, I did...

Hold in reset button on back for 5 seconds and then kill the power, while still holding in the reset button. Continue to hold the reset button and after 5 seconds, turn the router back on and continue to hold the reset button for another 10 seconds.

This should do a complete master reset and you will be good to go.
==================

Once I did the hard reset as noted here I've been fine. I've been using 1.00.15 with the SPI enabled for more than a week now without any issues.

Hope this helps,
john

Hi Everyone:

Just now getting to all of my e-Mails. The Hard Reset is the key here. I engaged my Reset button for 30 seconds and while still engaged, removed the power and still held in the Reset button. Powering it back up, it works either with or without the Firewall Engaged.

No other settings I needed to get this to work.

Thanks for the information! That DID indeed fix it. Just want to point out that you should screenshot your settings before you do that since it blows away all your settings and sets it back to factory defaults. However, it did fix the Voip issues. I still have issues with my VPN using AT&T Dialer, but that's minor and hopefully will be remedied in a future release Smile

One other thing to note, I had multiple notes back and forth with supposed Linksys "tech support" and none even mentioned the simple fix above. Guess it's better to scan boards than it is to call Tech support Smile
