Since I lost my Vonage Adaptor given by Vonage when I first signed up, I bought a PAP2 from a retail store. Now Vonage tells me that they do not recognize this adaptor and that I have to get a Vonage Compatible adaptor! If MAC address is the only way to identify a device, why is there a problem? Any thoughts?

This seems to be an onging problem with Vonage. See: http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic11924.html
I would call them again and insist that you have a new/unused Vonage adapter and that they need to correct the problem on their end. If that does not work then take the adapter back to where you bought it and return it. Tell them that Vonage told you that it was no good. If Vonage will not get this problem fixed, maybe the retailers will get fed up with all of the Vonage returns and apply some pressure from that end. |

I don't disagree with any of that- fighting the good fight is always in order. However, if you don't have time for it, take the adapter back and try to find one specifically marked as being for Vonage. Even then you might have a problem, but the probability is less. |

Yes, if the PAP2 that you bought is not a Vonage branded PAP2 then there in NO CHANCE that you are going to get Vonage to activate it. If this is the case... take it back and get a Vonage branded PAP2.
If the one that you have is a Vonage PAP2 (I assumed that when I first replied) then they should activate it. If they do not and you have no luck convinving them to... then take it back and get another one.
There have been reports of people buying routers and phone adapters that are Vonage branded that Vonage does not recognize by the MAC address. There have been serveral theories as to why this happens... but it should not matter. They should activate it. If you do return the PAP2 and get another one that Vonage still does not recognize then you may have to take it back and get one from another retailer... they may have a lot that is not in the MAC database at Vonage.
Good Luck! |
