I am thinking of getting the Vonage service. What I am wondering is if anyone had successfully connected their wired telephone lines in their house to the Voip adaptor. I have seen a guide before but can't remember where I saw it. Any ideas?

This is straightforward in the US if you are getting your broadband feed via cable - you can simply unplug the phone line at the master socket and plug the Vonage box into any extension. It's literally a two minute job.

In the UK it would be more problematic because

a) If you get your broadband via a BT ADSL line you need to keep that live
b) You can't easily disconnect the incoming line at the master socket.

The only way around it I can see would be to disconnect all your extensions at the master socket, rewire them into a socket placed adjacent to the master and plug your Vonage line into that

ie Master Socket to Modem
Modem to Vonage Router In
Phone Socket 1 on Router to New Extension Hub Socket
Phones plugged in to existing extension sockets around the house.

You would need to be really sure all you extensions were isolated from the main BT line though or it would end in tears.

Seems a lot of trouble - wouldn't a DECT phone be easier?

Well I have two lines running into my house anyway so I can easily isolate one of the lines at the main socket. I assume the wireing is easy then, like all colour coded I assume. I fitted all the telephone extensions in my house so I know exactly how it is wired. As long as your can see no problems with it then ill go ahead Smile

It'll work fine for you, just as long as you can stay away from the circuit that has your BT line and the DSL service.

If you do have a separate circuit running through your house, you just need to plug your Vonage box into one of the extension jackpoints. Then you can access the Vonage service on your other jackpoints.

One thing you may need to watch out for. I'm not sure just how much ringing power the Vonage boxes have. You could get into trouble if you try to make too many phones ring at once.

My Parents have a cable modem , and are now with Vonage. When their BT line was disconnected I removed the wires on the little white terminal box that connects to the outside (Will be in various places in the UK home, but my parents was at their front door) this ensured nothing was being pushed back onto BT line.
I then simply plugged an old modem cable into the BT socket (UK BT plug) and the other end (RJ11 US plug) into the Vonage adaptor and it pushed the signal around all of them....it has worked fine for the last few weeks since I did it.
***Please be aware though that not all extensions/BT Sockets are the same and it may not work, you do this entirely at your own risk, I am not responsible in any way should your house explode***
