Here is a question, I have Roadrunner cable with very good data transfer. 2.5k DL 356k UL
It seem that I have problems about every other day with uplink dropout.. I can run a test and still have good data rate.., I have my bandwith saver to the lowest settings.
I was wonderig IF cable would have more hop's to the gateway OR IF DSL would have less HOP's because there is more a direct line to the phone company..
The trade off, cable more bandwith, or DSL less HOP's ??
Any ideas on this... Would I have less probems with DSL..

Remember, the number of hops isn't to a phone service, it's how far it is to Vonage's Internet SIP servers. I doubt anyone could predict in advance how many would be required to go from either service to whichever server you connect to.
Have you ever noticed any other I'net dropouts with other uses (AIM, surfing, file sharing)? If not, how is your connection configured? Are you using a router? Do you have to reset your ATA to get things squared away, what are the symptoms of these uplink dropouts? Just phone noise, ehcho, silences? |

Whether cable or DSL would be better depends on the quality of service of each. One's not always better than the other. You have to find out which serves you better in your area.

I have used both cable and DSL with no noticable diffrence. I go back and forth to which ever is cheeper. The basic phone line + the DSL is cheeper right now that the Cable, so that is what I am using. I had RR cable but they uped the price after 6 mths, so back to DSL. |
