Job Description:
Kernel Hackers Wanted:
Do you use linux at home? Extra credit if you've installed a version of bsd (no, OS X® does not count).
Are you paranoid enough to know the network is unreliable.
Do you know how many transactions your systems processed today? Extra credit if you measure in thousands per second.
Is your watch synched to NTP? Extra credit if it displays in UTC.
Do you know the classic meaning of "hacker" and are you proud to call yourself one?
We need a few premier hackers to help define the next-generation evolution of our highly scalable, distributed and robust call processing infrastructure. We need hackers with prior experience with some combination of the following: C, C++, Python, Perl, and SQL.
What we are NOT looking for:
We are not looking for a Windows programmer or administrator. It is nice if you have Windows skills but they are not a substitute for Unix skills. This is a Unix/Linux job.
We are not looking for someone who wants to work in an environment with very formal development paradigms and the even more expensive tool suites that come along with these paradigms.
We are not looking for someone who wants to do GUI or web page development.
We are not looking for an entry level person.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for someone with experience supporting dozens, hundreds or even thousands of geographically distributed Unix or Linux servers running lights out/hands off.
We are looking for someone who is an independent and creative thinker, but works well as part of a team.
We are looking for someone who realizes that while it is ok to enjoy one's job and even have some fun at work, also understands that the workplace is a place of work.
We are looking for someone who realizes that the sign of a really good systems team is that their work is not fully appreciated or understood by the rest of the company.
We are looking for omeone who expects to do 95% of their work in a text based environment.
