I'm trying to tweak my QoS and I've run a couple of different tests on this site using the Boston location. I've read several posts that mention packet discards is the thing to look for.

My media quality to Boston is around 4.0 to 4.2 depending and Boston to me is 4.2 to 4.4. Which is the most important field, the Packet Discards under the Degradation Sources Box or the overall Packet Discards at the bottom of my results under Round-Trip Latency?

Also, would we be considered a good Round-Trip Latency time and Packet Discard pecentage?

4.0 to 4.2 is some pretty good numbers. It's going to be hard to tell that from a landline, to be honest.

Why don't you post the results in detail, and we can look at what is costing you the .2 to .4?

Packet discard of up to 2-3% is going to be virtually unnoticeable as long as it's a steady loss.

As Nate said, these are pretty good numbers. It's the overall packet discards at the bottom that we look at. The degradation sources percentage doesn't mean much if you're getting good numbers, because discards may be a high percentage of a very small amount of degradation.

I like to see latency times below 250 ms.

Thanks both for the feedback. I've only been on this setup for less than a week and I'm too much of a second guesser when it comes to network setup, which is how I am with the network at my work. Anyhow, I guess there isn't too much more tweaking to do. My wife was just on the phone for quite a while and didn't experience any problems with choppiness and what not. One problem I had, may have been my 2.4Ghz phone interfering with the WRT54G wireless router.

I have one last question about the WRT54G SPI Firewall. Some people have experienced problems using it but, NateHoy and DallasFlier both have it setup on their 54G's without experiencing problems. Is it safe to use any of the other settings of the SPI Firewall besides Blocking Anonymous Internet Requests and Filtering IDENT and Multicast?
