Hey all...Vonage noob here.

I having a heluva time trying to setup remote access via port 8080 on my RTP300. I try over and over, but after clicking ENABLE, choosing port 8080 and then Save Settings...everything looks like it is saving (status bar, etc), but when the settings screen returns, "disabled" is still chosen.

Is there some other setting that must be set first in order for this to stick, or has Vonage locked out this feature? I am on version .60 of the firmware.

It's driving me crazy as it should be a no brainer!

Thanks!

I'd say it was just you. I got mine to work fine. I currently have the .62 firmware. It did make me change the password from the default password in order to enable remote administration.

I think the deafening silence tells the story. As you say, this should work without a problem. Since it doesn't, you might want to try a hard reset on the RTP300 and see if that will fix the problem.

Hey all...I know it sounds like user error, but I had a buddy try it as well (FWIW we are both MCSE's...and he is a CCNE to boot!) This box just will not allow remote access. Tried stock usernames passwords combo's as well as unique ones. Once you click ENABLE and then save...you get the "saving" status bar, and then the screen returns...except the DISABLED radio button is still checked. Rebooted multiple times at various stages to no avail. Oh well...I still have a cable attached to the box...I'll just do it the old fashioned way. Sad

It just got this refurbed unit last week with my sign up kit...could this be something new with Vonage? Also, sometime during the night it updated itself to .62, but still no love.

Thanks anyway guys...

Change the password to something other than "admin" and it should work -- it won't allow remote access when defaulted.

OK, you're not going crazy, really you're not! Mine acts exactly the same way. Here's what I finally did and got it to work. Do it exactly like this, or no guarantees! Actually, no guarantees anyway. Lol

Go to "Factory Defaults" under "Administration." Click on Yes for "Restore Router Factory Defaults:" and click "Save Settings."

After it reboots, login (password has been reset to "admin") and go directly to Administration and click Enable for Remote Access, then "Save Settings." You'll get an error window, telling you you can't do that unless you change the default password. Click "OK" on that error box, which will put you into the password entry box. Enter a new password there, enter it again on the next line, then click "Save Settings." (NOTE, the "Enable" for remote should still be checked when you do this, its left checked after your click "OK" on that error box.) So, you're changing the password AND enabling remote at the same time.

That exact sequence worked for mine - good luck!

Oh - further update - just to frustrate you more. ANY other change you do to the router which requires a reboot - appears to disable the remote access again. And, I've not been successful at enabling it except IMMEDIATELY after the "Restore to Factory Defaults" reboot. So, hopefully you don't want to make any other changes requiring a reboot, because I haven't figured out how and still have remote access enabled! And, if the power glitches....... yep, no more remote access, because your router rebooted!

Thanks DallasFlier. I did exactly as you instructed, and it worked! It **** that it isnt sticky after a re-boot though. Why is it that nobody else seems to have this problem but you & I? Whats different about your box & mine? It's gota ba abug...otherwise what good is remote access if the first time you change something, you lose it! Weird.

Thanks!

Were you using the DHCP on the router or some thing else? When I disabled the DHCP on the router i ran in to the same problem as you described, wont retain the Remote Access settings, neither would allow me to remote access ....
