I'm a user in Virgina, using the Linksys RTP300 with a Microsoft wireless router model MN-700. I can't get a dial tone, everytime I pick up the phone, it says that I may have the phone in the wrong port, which I don't.

I have the dsl model plugged into the router and the computer connection and the RTP300 coming out of it.

I can't get Vonage service, been on hold for 2 days. Any help would be appreciated.

My upload speed is 248

Doesn't a Vonage call disconnect after 4 hours? Maybe that's why no one is answering.

If you haven't tried re-booting everything, powering up in the correct order- typically modem, wait, router, wait, adapter, PCs- you should do so.

Are you getting a phone light for either line? Has it ever worked? If you plug your PC into a LAN port on the RTP300 and access the RTP's administration page, what do you see on the status/voice page?

If you get the message that you describe when you pick up the phone that means that port on the phone adapter has not been provisined (activated). It may be becase you phone adapter is not getting though to Vonage or because Vonage has not activated your account.

So, I am assuming that your configuration is:

Modem -> RTP300 ---> Phone + PC

Do if this is the case, and you have the a PC connected to the router, are you able to connect to the internet with the PC through the RTP300? If not maybe the router is not getting an IP address from the Modem. Try turning off the RTP300 and the Modem. Wait several minutes. Turn the Modem on. Wait a minute. Turn the RTP300 on and try again.

If your phone is still not registering then you will have to contact Vonage.

If you're a Verizon customer, you will have to configure the Basic Setup page for PPPoE, add username and password for Verizon, in the event you have their DSL service.

If you have a DSL modem that gives a natted IP to the pc plugged into it, you may have to put the DSL modem into bridge mode so the Vonage router can get a WAN ip. You can find most of these methods on dslreports.com or from the manual on the manufacturers website of your router. Some dsl/cable modems also have a firewall built in which will block the registration packets used by Vonage and that will have to be disabled.

Just talked to tech support last night. Since this is a replacement model for the V-tech one I returned, they told me it would take a few hours to activate the router.

Talked to them again today, they said the person lied to me last night and it wouldn't take a few hours, but rather a few days for the router to be activated.

I told them that I want it activated before my 30 days is up, because I don't know if this is the problem of why it's not working.
They assured me that once they activate the router it will work.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

If the RTP300 came from Vonage, it should be provisioned on the account already, unless there is a production issue on their side. Looks like they lied twice.

Who is your ISP?

That's what I told them. They said since I didn't get another vtech and got the router instead, (the vtech was listed on the order sheet,) they said they had to switch it at shipping and that's why it wasn't activated.

It's Saturday afternoon and it still hasn't been activated. They did say they might get around to it this weekend, but they said since it's the weekend maybe Monday.

Great service.

It's Tuesday, and so far they haven't activated my account yet. Don't know what to do, should I wait till tomorrow or just go ahead and cancel the service now?
