Hmm, this is a strange one indeed. Are you doing any kind of mac-address cloning on the Netgear, or is it a pretty standard config? You could try to reset it to factory defaults and start from a clean config.
When the Netgear lost connectivity with a static ip address and gateway, did you notice its WAN port's link light go out? I know it's in a different room from you, but maybe someone could watch that for you.
On the Netgear's "Show Statistics" (Maintenance->Router Status->Show Statistics) page, what does it say for the LAN status, and what does it say under collisions for the LAN port? |

OK, we need to go back to step 1 here... i bypassed the switch and thought things were working just fine...
So my new setup is: NETGEAR>>>PAP2>>>Uniden Cordless phone
But the same problem occurs...... perhaps i got a bad PAP2???????

No collisions? the WAN Tx and Rx B/s keep jumping to 0....

Probably more like a bad Netgear. Try manually setting your WAN port speed to 10M/Half and see what happens. |

Doubtfull considering that a brand new WRV54G from linksys has the same problem....
it's getting a bit frustrating |
