I'm having trouble transferring a number AWAY from Vonage. The number was originally a SWB number that I transferred to Vonage and now I want to move it away. But every time I try they reject it saying that the name it's registered to doesn't match the number. I've sent in copies of billing and nothing works.
Anyone got any feedback on this? |

who are you trying to port it to? of course it really doesn't matter, just curious.
anyway, your easiest and apparently only option is to transfer the number back to swb.
the reason you're having this problem is because with a traditional phone company, you are the owner of record of that phone number. the phone company owns the line and they let you own it by paying for it every month.
voip however owns no lines, and has to get them from different clecs. so the owner of record is the voip company, not you.
many people have successfully ported their number away from vonage, especially if it was not a vonage assigned number. personally I ported away a vonage assigned number, which seems to be a little less common. at any rate, everyone's experiences vary and unfortunately yours is varying to the bad side. |

The problem doesn't seem to be who I'm porting it to. I'm porting it to Level 3 and going to use that number with an Asterisk box I'm running. The problem is that I have tried 3 times and Vonage refuses every time. And I provided Vonage bills. They say that I'm not the correct owner of the number. |

that's kind of weird if vonage is saying that. personally I would make sure everything is in order and try to port it back to swb, then to level3. |

heh, no kidding, but transferring it back to your local, traditional telco may make the process work. I'm just giving you the only possible solution you're ever going to get. sounds like you need to make sure your account information is correct if vonage is the one saying that number isn't assigned to you. besides that, trying to port it back to swb is your only chance unless you can find someone on the inside who will work with you...and if you haven't yet... |

Been trying to transfer number from Vonage to SunRocket since April 22nd 2006.
This number was originally from Comcast.
Vonage refuses to release number due to information not matching their records. This information was copied directly from the transfer form from Comcast the Vonage.
Received e-mail from Vonage stating that your new phone company has to contact Vonages 3rd party partner not Vonage to transfer number.
Neither Vonage or their 3rd party will release the information to me or SunRocket as to what data they changed in connection to my old phone number.
UPDATE AUG 10TH
Vonage has finally released my number to SunRocket. Now comes the fun of trying to cancel my Vonage account.
So in effect they have found away to keep me as their customer or face loosing my number.
Complaints have been filed with the FCC and BBB. |

I placed a post on the general Vonage forum yesterday which explained the deplorable customer service and lack of accountability on the part of Vonage. We were without a properly operating phone not receiving incoming calls for 9 days AFTER the 15 day porting period. Attempts to obtain a refund after cancelling were met with a block wall because we were two days over the 30 day money back period and were charged a disconnect and device fee.
A gentlemen was kind enough to reply with the name of an executive memeber name to address the complaint to.
Unfortunately, my post was ERASED FROM THE FORUM. It no longer exists. I don't believe this falls under the catagory of deliberately misleading.
Suggestions or contact info would be appreciated. I too have filed a complaint with the FCC.

I received back from the Michigan Attorney Generals office a copy of Vonages response to my complaint of them refusing to release the information connected to my phone number.
It appears that they have my wifes name not mine attached to the number but my name on Vonages billing. So to be safe I changed my Vonage account information to my wifes.
All they had to do was tell me that in the first place. Now comes the wait and see if the transfer will go through this time.
In the meantime I will keep updating my site to the final day.
