I just installed my Voange yesterday and discovered that I cannot connect to my VPN through as long as my Motorola Vonage Adapter is between the Cable modem and the computer. I must disconnect my Vonage and directly connect the Cable Modem to the computer while on company VPN, hence no phone while working from home. Can anyone help? |

Well, ONE way to make it work is to not put the ATA between your modem and computer, but to instead add a router there and hang the ATA off the router, in parallel with the computer. I can't tell you if the ATA has a VPN setting or any issues (perhaps it's a port conflict), but the router should do the trick. |

I have had zero VPN problems since my Moto was upgraded to software version 1.16d. It's now at 1.16e. 1.16d had some VPN fixes. I use both Microsoft Windows 2000's PPTP and IPSec via the Cisco VPN Client ver 4.0.
I have used the Moto both in its pass-through bridging mode (NAT/DHCP turned off) and in NAT mode. Outbound VPN sessions work fine either way. |

I have a similar problem. I am running XP professional at home, with a Linksys router. I was able to connect to my office without a problem. I still am able to connect but most of the time after about two minutes I get disconnected. I have tried various ways of connecting the computer and MTA, but, nothing has been successful except for disconnecting the MTA entirely.
Once in awhile the connection is fine but most of the time I get kicked off. I never have a problem reconnecting, but it only stays connected for a few minutes.
I have spoken to Vonage tech support and they have walked me through various things including a static IP address and port forwarding, but nothing seems to work.
HELP! |

You're having these problems even with the Moto box NOT in the line between your computer and the modem? IOW, both the computer and Moto box are sitting in parallel off the router? |

I have the Moto box connected to a Linksys WRT54G 802.11g router which is connected to the Motorola cable modem.
I have no problems connecting via VPN to a corporate network and staying connected with a laptop computer and a 802.11g card. |

It's the weirdest thing. I have had them set up in multiple configurations, sometimes I don't have a problem. Next day with nothing being changed I VPN and for some reason I get kicked off. If I disconnect the MTA, (no matter what configuration) I'm fine. Hook the MTA back and I get kicked off. I have Optonline and am using a Linksys Router BEFXS41. |

This sounds like ethernet autosense problems (maybe). polivieri, it's possible the Linksys and the Moto are not autosensing speed and duplex correctly with each other and this is causing the Linksys to lock up or reboot.
I'm not sure you can do this, but see if you manually can set the speed and duplex on the Moto's WAN port. It's best to use full-duplex but you may have to try half-duplex to get things to work reliably.

Not sure its a speed problem. When my VPN connection is lost I can still access the internet with no problem. |

polivieri, let me get this straight...
- In one configuration you have your MTA and computer behind a router, plugged into different ports in that router, and the computer is NOT plugged into the MTA, right?
- When so connected you sometimes lose your VPN but can log back in without problems, correct?
- When so connected and having disconnection problems, unplugging the MTA and making NO other changes seems to help your VPN sessions stay connected, right?
OK, have you setup the router to forward the relevant ports to the MTA? |
