I have the DirecTV R-15 and a couple of standard receivers. I see that one of them is dialing out multiple times per day, and the call lasts 1 minute. I saw in an earlier post from scerutti that this is normal.
Can anybody tell me how to determine that this connection is working? On my old Tivo (Series-1) there was a menu item to show the last phone connection, but I don't see this anywhere on the R-15. Will I only find out if I try to pay-per-view something? |

I have had similar concerns and while my D10 receiver is connected to the Vonage phone line and passes the phone test, it does not appear whatsoever that it is dialing out on my call log.
I called DirecTV today from my cell phone and they advised me that my receiver has not called out in over a month, so DirecTV ran a phone check and verified that my receiver can not dial out with Vonage.
So, one way to verify that your receiver is making contact is to call DirecTV and ask them. |

Almost two weeks ago, I Pay-Per-Viewed Zathura for my kids (great movie BTW). I was getting worried that the dial-in connection was not working since none of my 4 receivers had even tried to connect to DirecTV in almost a month.
Yesterday, my R-15 did try. And it must have succeeded, because my account now finally shows the PPV movie.
I don't know if the other receivers will successfully phone home, and I really don't care so long as the R15 does so I can continue to do PPV. |

If the DirecTV receivers are anything like Dish Network receivers, the phone line "test" doesn't mean squat.
On Dish receivers, all the test does is check to see if you have a dialtone. If it picks up the line and there's a dialtone, it says the test is successful. It doesn't actually call in and do a test of a connection.
I'd guess that the DirecTV receivers do the same thing. |
