PostPosted: Tue Apr 04, 2006 11:15 pm    Post subject: What is Vonage doing for customer? Nothing so far Reply with quote Back to top

I have been with Vonage for almost 2 years now and I begin to really wonder what this company is doing with all the money they received in funding (besides these stupid ads).
I am not unhappy with the service itself but I am very unhappy that in almost 2 years they have added almost no new features at all.
How come a cheap service like sunrocket offers all the services below (no, I am NOT posting ads for them and I heard their call quality and reliability are not great but they still added services in record time that users want)

Block Anonymous Calls
Block Specific Numbers
Do Not Disturb
Group Forwarding
Ability to add contacts from call logs to address book, speed dial and so on

Why is is so hard for Vonage to add those kind of features ? I asked for them when I signed up and was told they would come (some of them) and almost 2 years later there is nothing new)
Most other Voip Services now offer most of these "missing from Vonage" services. So what are they doing with all the money ? Even E911 implementation has been slower than little nothing companies handled it.
And don't get me started on support/customer service. The last mail I sent got an answer after 2 weeks and the anwser was useless.
I liked Vonage a lot when they were the new kid on the block but I am very upset that they have, as far as I can tell, done nothing for their customers and ignored feature requests. I thought Voip is a new business that grows, adds new features and capabilities. Well, I see them at other Voip companies but not Vonage so far. I can only hope they are coming...soon.

I have said this many times, but never hurts to say it again. All the features in the world, ie SR, doesn't mean much when there are so many service disruptions. They for example have had at least 4 outages including a major one in September. Heck, they have had 2 this year already.

I am not defending Vonage's lack of features at this point, as they really need to get on the bandwagon and add some. But for me, I use Vonage as a phone line, not a gimmick. I like the idea that it just works.

My point is that these cheap services have managed to add features and in comparison to them Vonage is very large. They received 105 Million in funding (in comparison to sunrocket with 34 million). Vonage already has the network and reliability (actually I had at least 4 outages last year as well and bad call quality for weeks)
Don't get me wrong. I like Vonage but I am disappointed. Since they received this funding they have no added anything. So it feels they try to sign up more people but not invest in improvements at all.
105 million dollars for these annoying ads doesn't seem like a good plan to me.

Perhaps the founder sees this company as a strictly business venture for profit. Maybe once it has been sold then the extra special add ons will appear?

The problem is that some of them are simple convinience tools that even my regular phone company offers.
Anonymous call rejection for example. These forums are full of people who have been asking for this for over a year. There is almost nobody who hasn't added this.
Vonage used to be a leader (in quality and features) and now they are suddenly still the company with the deepest pockets but certainly not a leader anymore in terms of technology and available features and I wonder why.
Having a reliable network and continuing to improve offerings is a model to make money rather than signing people up and not improving anything (which makes good money short term but doen't give you a happy customer base that keeps recommending your product)

Then if it keeps your panties in a bunch on these non existent features. Write a Letter to the correct person and ask why they have not been on the ball like the other Companies.

Done that but of course no answer for 2 weeks and then a canned answer that they were always looking into improving their service.

Yes, especially since I really did join them almost 2 years ago because I liked how advanced they were. I understand a company makes profits but I do wonder what the hell they have been doing for all this time. Nothing I can see or feel. Calls are not much better than packet8 or sunrocket (the only two I tested as a work project...I actually felt packet8 call quality was even better)
Let's hope Vonage actually listens and they will add features in the future.
