this is somewhat of an interesting thread..

I am a new user of Vonage. this kinda of scares me. I was seriously thinking about dropping my land line and just going with Vonage.

Are your overall experiences with Vonage good or bad?

Good enought to drop your land line?

I just dropped my landline a couple weeks ago and my Vonage number was down for 8+ hours yesterday with callers receiving a "This number has been disconnected" message. Speaking from my own personal experience, I'd think about how well you can tolerate down times before dropping your land line - because you are definately going to have some down time with Vonage (i.e. can you use your cell phone instead? do you depend on people contacting you by home-phone?, etc...)

batescr -

All kidding aside, I've had Vonage since July 2005 and I've been very happy with it.

Yes, Caller ID has had its share of horror stories, as had my experience with the Vonage-supplied WRTP54G (identical to your RTP300 except that it has wireless). In fact, I ended up taking some of my savings and buying a REAL router and putting it "in front" of my WRTP54G and relegating the WRTP54G to Vonage duty only. Both my Internet AND Vonage experiences improved considerably with that move.

So, my experience with Vonage has been far from perfect. But, it hasn't been horrible, either.

Given:
- the $30 price tag with taxes,
- the fact that a BASIC line from Verizon here in Maine would cost me about $40 (plus long distance),
- or $75 to replace MOST of the Vonage features (unlimited long distance, voice mail, but not forwarding or SimulRing),
- and most importangly - the fact that the phone line itself has never failed on me, other than the problems solved by replacing my main router

... I'm happy with them. I'm staying with them at least until my year is up, then we'll see what's up in July. Maybe I'll jump ship to another company (primarily to get an unlocked device and more control over my device settings without calling customer service), maybe not.

Are they a 100% replacement for a land line? No, I'd have to say not. But I dropped my cell phone earlier this year and have been using Vonage exclusively since July 2005 and it's just always worked for me. Sure, I may not have caller ID during this or that firmware upgrade, or the web site goes down from time to time, etc, but the basic line works, and for the price, that's good enough for me.

Voip is still relatively new, and of course unlike corporate Voip, Vonage is dependent on your (usually) consumer Internet connection to work. But they manage to do a decent job all the same.

I've been a Vonage customer since March 2005. After one week of service I dropped my land line from BellSouth. For the most part it is a very transparent service. I had a router which went bad in September and I was ticked because their customer support number was horked and nobody could seem to resolve the problem until the morning, and I've not had another problem since until 2 days ago.

I've been with Vonage since July 2005, no real regrets. It's been more reliable than any of my land lines (Sprint & Verizon), more reliable than my cell phone. After Hurricane Wilma, all landlines (and cell towers which rely upon them) were down in the area due to extended power outages, but my Vonage line wasn't affected at all. The Vonage adapters aren't of the highest quality, but all of the current ones are "mature" and have most of the bugs worked out of them now.

Does anyone know what .62 changes or which problems it causes? My RTP300's blocked from doing TFTP's for now, not wanting to unblock it without knowing what I'm getting myself into.

Has anyone had any issues with the new firmware improperly showing voice mail when there is none? I've tried to clear it, but it doesn't seem to matter.

Coincidentially, I had to reboot my network this morning (nothing Vonage related), and didn't even notice it until it was pointed out here, but mine is .62 as well. Everything has been working fine since this morning, including caller ID and voicemail.

Mine is still at 60, even after a reboot.

In the past, each time the RTP300 was upgraded, so was the WRTP54G, since they are basically the same router, except the WRTP5G adds wireless.

Any WRTP54G users have the new firmware?
