Just a reality check here. I am subletting an office in a professional suite. I need my own business number. I signed up for a Vonage business account with a fax line. I have tested my Linksys PAP2 phone adapter at home -- got a dial done -- no problem,
My new office-mates have DSL, I believe. Their router is far from the receptionist desk and my office. Is the easiest and best practice to buy an excellent cordless phone with several handsets. That way the receptionist can answer the phone and transfer calls to my headset. Is it that easy? Am I missing something? Also, I may need to add a line later, if my business succeeds. Suggestions? Much appreciated.

If everything goes well, then the cordless phone is a practical solution to your need, but there are potential issues. The first is whether your office mates have sufficient bandwidth via their service to give you the phone quality and reliability that you want. One of the weaknesses of the Vonage system is that you are utterly dependent on the quality of an internet service that Vonage does not provide. In your case, this will be compounded by someone else being the actual subscriber to that service.
Another potential issue is interference between cordless phones used by other businesses. Overall, it would be best if you can get a wire connection from the Vonage adapter to ordinary corded phones. Whether that's practical in your situation only you can tell. |
