I've been having lots of trouble with calls getting dropped. We're using an RP31P2 and replacing it to see if the situation improves would be the path of least resistance. I see that Vonage currently uses RTP300RB instead of the older RP31P2. How do these compare? Are the 300RB units better (that is, more reliable)?

you know I signed up with Vonage about 2 weeks ago and they sent me a RP31P2. It hasn't worked since I unpluged it to paint the room and rehooked it up.

I started out with the RP31P2, Vonage switched me to the RTP300......My service has been better since the switch.

well I thought "vontage" was bad but RP31P2 is a close second.
the RT31P2 is generally a fine box, though some people have their horror stories or swear that the rtp300/wrtp54g has better call quality because of the different chipset.
the path of least resistance would be reading the topmost post that says 'what to post when having problems with Vonage' to see if you have a completely different issue, which you probably do, which no adapter can change.

RT31P2. So sorry.

It's sort of the way Sherlock Holmes was quoted as saying: when you eliminate everything else, whatever remains - however improbable - must be the truth.

I have 6M/768 DSL from SBC. The Vonage problem has never had a particular time of day when it is bad, and even during prime time testyourvoip gave a perfect score.

Last night I went out and bought a PAP2. I would have liked to get an RTP300, but none of the local retailers had one and customer service wouldn't swap it out. It's too soon to tell, but so far, we haven't had a single dropped call, and the echo I've always noticed when calling home is also gone.

I'll post back in a week or so, but it looks like we can chalk another one up to the RT31P2 being crap.

Well, that can only be true if your specific RT31P2 was "crap", as you put it. The RT31P2 and the PAP2 have absolutely IDENTICAL Voip chipsets and circuitry in them. The only difference is that the PAP2 has only the Voip circuitry and the RT31P2 takes that identical Voip design and adds a router to it.

I have had the RT31P2 since JAN 2005 and have had no problems at all. Great call quality. Dunno...I guess I got a good one.

I have an RT31P2 for about a month now and the only problem I had was with my DirecTV that was having trouble dialing out.
As it turned out, all that I needed to do was to reboot the receiver and everything worked out just great.
It even works with my fax machine and credit card terminal.
I am very pleased with both Vonage service and my RT31P2.

Well, it's been a few days and for whatever reason, the PAP2 is doing much, much better than the RT31P2.

My comments about the RT31P2 being crap were based on my informal survey of this and other forums that suggested that more than a few folks having better luck after switching. There can be many reasons why a batch of product A built a year before a batch of product B could act differently, even if they do share the same chipset and/or design. It's also possible that my survey of the situation is not correct.

At this point, we're back in the 'happy customer' column. My only gripe is in having to buy the hardware twice. I'd eBay the old one, but if it's a lemon, that wouldn't be a very nice thing to do.

Having the RT31P2, RTP300, and PAP2... The RTP300 is my fav, but I'm totally focused on sound quality over everything else. The PAP2 would be my second fav. Definitely noisier & the sound quality isn't quite as good, but it syncs up with Vonage in seconds (rather than 20-30 seconds with the RTP300) and is VERY easy to toss in the laptop bag. The RT31P2 was by FAR the noisiest/worst. I had 2 of these. The first one was just generally noisy, the second one they sent me was even noisier and had a constant whine in the audio which made it totally unusable.
