PostPosted: Mon Apr 03, 2006 7:51 am    Post subject: Trying to get a Guardian Security system to work with Vonage Reply with quote Back to top

I am a new vonage user and I have installed my system. For the most part it is working fine, which the exception of my security system. I have a Guardian security system and I cannot get it to work with Vonage. I went from my vonage router and ran the phone cable out the window and plugged in to the same outside phone jack that used to bring Verizon into the house.. When I test it with Guardian they say that they do not receive a signal. From that Jack none of my house phone work. I find this odd since it is the same Jack that the Verizon device used and that worked fine.

So I plugged Vonage in to a phone Jack inside the house and all the phones work but The Security system still doesn't The security system is the first thing on the line after the phone line comes in to the house. Anybody find an easy way around this?

jakejohn,

may I suggest that you post this in the TIVO/FAX/ALARMS forum. If you go to the forum community link on the top left and place your cursor over it, other forums will show up and select the tivo/fax/alarms forum. you will get a better response there. Or maybe the moderator can move this post.

The jack you're plugging into connects to the old POTS line, and that's exactly where you don't want to connect. You'll need to get an adapter that allows you to connect the male end of the cord going out your window to the male end of the plug in the outside box.

I'm not sure what a POTS line is but I think what your saying is that I was try Smile ing to feed my "input" from Vonage into the jack that actually was "input" from Verizon. That would explain some other issues I was having.

Thanks again I will give that a try.

Yes, that's what I meant. POTS stands for "plain old telephone service" and refers to your old land line.

Thanks that worked like a charm. My phone service and my alarm system works on Vonage. Looking at the way the box is set up it led me to believe that it ran the other way but you were right.

Thanks again!!!
