1. Location: Omak, Washington
2. CommunityNet wireless (local ISP)
3. Upload and download speeds: usually >400 mbs
4. Modem make and model: NETGEAR MR814v2
5. Type of Vonage adapter used ie RT31P2 or PAP2: NOT SURE It is the Linksys RTP300
6. Network setup BEFORE inserting Linksys RTP300 pohone adapter:
Wireless connection to internet and wireless connections to three computers in my house from a NetGear MR814 v2 router.
Setup of Existing Network: [wireless dish antenna]<<cable with power pitail>>[NETGEAR MR814v2 router]<<wireless signal>>[wireless USB adapter]<<USB cable and connector>>[USB port on computer]
Setup AFTER inserting the Linksys RTP300 phone adapter:
Same as before, but with the Linksys phone adapter connected to a phone into PHONE 1 port and the blue cable connected from the WAS port on the Linksys to one of the ethernet ports on the back of the NETGEAR router.
My ISP techies (unavailable today) told me to connect the Linksys to the dish cable first, but after I do that, I get no wireles network to my computers AND I still have no phone service!
7. PROBLEM: I get no dial tone on my phone. I do get a voice telling me to try the other phone port. This does not remedy the situation. I have checked all connections multiple times.
8. DETAILED results from www.testyourvoip.com with a test call to Boston:
MOS
3.3 / 5.0
(Best with G.711 is 4.4)

Degradation Sources
Codec 0.58 34.3%

Packet Loss 0.0%

Avg: 9 ms
Max: 110 ms

Post-Dial Delay 156 ms
Call Setup Time 156 ms
Media Delay 359 ms

I have faithfully followed the installation instructions (although they seem to be skimpy with references to wirelss internet) to connect these devices.

I am at my wits end. I have no phone service.

I get the message "The page cannot be displayed." when I try to access the web-based utility for the Linksys RTP 300.

HELP! Someone? Sad Confused

Hello, Unique. I'm glad you moved this here from the hard wiring forum, so that others will be aware of it. To repeat my earlier questions:

I assume that you've connected the WAN port on the RTP300 to a LAN port on the MR812. Is that correct? If you haven't tried cycling power on the RTP300 you should do that, though I'm sure that technical support told you that.

Is the MR812 set up as a DHCP server? If not, you'll need to set up a static address on the RTP300. To access its page, you have to plug a computer into one of its LAN ports. Having done that, you can then set it up for remote administration and access it from the computers that connect to the wireless router. I wouldn't bother unless you plan to play with the RTP300 settings frequently.

Let me emphasize again that you need to have your computer plugged directly into a LAN port on the RTP300 to see its administration page (at least until you get things set up).

I gather that your computer is accessing the internet successfully via a wireless connection through your router. Will it also work via a wired connection to a LAN port on your router?

Very Happy

Thanks for your advice, Steve.

I was able to use my neighbor's cell phone and talk through my connection issues with Vonage support.

You were right--I had to lug my desktop computer to near the router so that I could connect via hardwire to see the RTP300 admin page.

All is well that ends well.

The NETGEAR MR814v2 is set up as a DHCP server. To set the static address on the RTP300, Vonage support had to try 3 times, but was ultimately successful at helping me to do so. This was the key to making everything work corectly.

The RTP300 is first in line from my wireless dish antenna with an ethernet cable from one of its yellow ethernet ports to the WAN port of my wireless router.

Now I have Vonage phone service and my wireless LAN--everything is cool.

Thanks, again.
