I am sorry but I just had to tell someone. I tried telling the wife but she just did not care. |

I am Officially Jealous. Can you slice off a little and send it on up to Maine, so I can do something about my 256k upload? I mean, you now have 400 times my upload, surely you can spare a bit? Please, gov'nor? Spare a cup of bandwidth for the poor? (grin) |

Trees are not really a problem, unless they are pine trees. Pine needles stop a wireless connection DEAD. Of course, any trees are an issue it there are too many of them.
But, the hill could be an issue. The two units really do need to be line of sight. Is there any way to get antennas up high enough, or find a friendly neighbor on top of the hill who would put in a relay station in exchange for free Internet?
You may be able to pull it off with two decent wireless routers, running one as a server and one as a client. Just rig up a directional antenna ( www.freeantennas.com can get you some ideas) and try it out.
My usual recommendation of the WRT54GL applies, since they are really good routers, can run in either server or client mode with aftermarket firmware, and can accept a significant boost to signal output with the same aftermarket firmware. |

Do you know of a site like Google Maps that shows elevations? The hill might not be an issue for me as the roof of my house just might clear it. |

Download Google Earth. That's what I use for that sort of wireless survey, not to mention darned near everything else. |
