My issue has been escalated to a different department, whatever that means. Also, i had the tech put back my SB5120 as I have heard this is an excellent cable modem and didn't want the RCA.
I will post as i get more details.
Thanks,
Jeff

I live in Cambridge MA and also had the same problem around the April time frame. Interestingly enough my neighbour also had the same issue. We both work from home so we were noticing the problem at our desktops as well as on our
Vonage
lines.
We had comcast come out and they did the usual replacing of connectors / drops etc. This iimproved the situation, however, I've not done any ping tests yet to verify the number of drop outs.
The biggest issue that I run into at the moment is receiving calls on
Vonage
and the calling party can hear me but I can't hear them. Usualy I tell them to try claling me back. upon calling back usually things are ok.
Thanks
Andrew

Update: Round 2
Senior Tech. will be coming out wed. evening. After the senior tech determines there's nothing he can do, then a line tech. can come out. They won't let me skip to the line tech. without the senior tech coming first.
Yawn.

I've been doing a piongplot to
www.comcast.net
and see some packet loss on the cambridge.ma and the malden.ma systems. I'm not sure if this is acceptable or not. Anyone have any take on this?
Again, I have:
Comcast cable -> WCG200-v2 -> Linksys RT31P2
I then did a pingplot to the 3rd leg to see if I have any packet loss:
I have my neighbour doing the same thing, so a bit later we will compare results.

It's the 73.x.x.x hop that messes me up. Every so often, i can get anything out, and that shows up with complete failure to all hops, including the first one.
See if you see the same thing... If not, then your problem is different than mine.
Thanks,
J

I shall try an overnight log to see what I get...
I've logged a ticket with Comcast to take a look at the very him amount of packet loss that I'm seeing to:
10g-9-1-ur02.malden.ma.boston.comcast.net
I don't seem to have too much of an issue to 73.161.208.1. I do get 100% packet loss from time to time, but on the whole it's not bad. It's the following servers:
10g-9-2-ur01.malden.ma.boston.comcast.net
10g-9-1-ur02.malden.ma.boston.comcast.net
That I seem to be having problems with.

Post subject: Comcast Primed For Voip
Comcast recently spent about 2 months doing service disruptions in the Kansas City area for the apparent purposes of rolling out their phone service. The result at my house has been a 30 percent reduction in download bandwidth, my outgoing dropping form a steady 370 to 320 and a Comcast pitch for their $40 a month phone service.
The state is expected to pass an open cable act that will open up competition in the area. It may not be the perfect fix, but I sure have a feeling Comcast is going to learn what it is like to be "blown off" *laughs.

Post subject: Outbound calls being dropped -- Comcast or Vonage??
How can I tell if my problem is with
Vonage
or Comcast? I am unable to make Outbound calls, but my connection is good... as far as I can tell.
Thanks.

Craig,
I'm in southern California and have similar problems as Craig over the last several months. I tried and tried to get Comcast to come out and fix the problem, but unfortunately, could't get them to resolve the issue. I had business class service (7000/768) along with a special cable modem that could handle multiple static IPs. Just recently, I downgraded my service to residential service (6000/384) and have much better results. They forced me to use a different modem, so I had to change the modem hardware. Since then, I haven't had any problems. I think the modem might have been the problem.
I should also note that while I had the business class service, Comcast replaced the modem twice with the exact same hardware model, but the problems still existed.

Ah, well, my saga continues.
Comcast never showed up last night - they called the wrong phone number and assumed nobody was home. lovely.
They rescheduled for today. This time they had the correct phone number to call. They didn't call it, but cancelled the appointment anyway. lovely
I blew up at their customer service today. I told them that as soon as there is any competition (i.e. Fios), people are going to be jumping off the comcast ship so fast it won't be funny. One of the reps actually laughed at me (she thought i couldn't hear it as she tried to cover the phone). I immediately asked for her supervisor and told him about how rude she was. She'll probably get a promotion.
In the meantime, they are the only game in town for me, so i have to deal with their complete BS.
So, i've scheduled yet another appointment for saturday between 5 - 7. Anybody want to wager on whether or not they show?
Jeff
