Post subject: PAP2 compatibility problems with DECT system
Has anyone noticed any differences in compatibility between the RT31P2 and the PAP2? I originally got an RT31P2 when I first signed up to
Vonage
on the internet and then I later got a second unit for a colleague and that was a PAP2 from Comet.
Unfortunately I gave the RT31P2 to my colleague and am using the PAP2 myself. I recently swapped to a different DECT cordless base station on my PAP2 and it just won't work. I can call out OK but if I get an incoming call then the DECT unit never sees the incoming call (no ringing or caller ID). Oddly though, if I pick up the call then I can connect to it, it's just that I have to know someone is calling at that exact moment because my phone never rings.
I'm sure that when I first got the the RT31P2 I tested it with this very same DECT base station and it worked fine. I've done all the usual debugging stuff like trying the problematic DECT system on my regular BT phone line (it works perfectly) and tried another phone plugged into the PAP2 (which also works perfectly) so I guess it is just a case of the PAP2 not liking this DECT system (Philips Zenia Voice).
Does anyone have any clever suggestions? I really prefer the Zenia DECT system so I fear I'll need to swap my PAP2 for a RT31P2 somehow.

I seem to have resolved my problem. I had a spare Zenia base station so I used that and it worked. Note that my original base station is not faulty, until a few days ago I had been using it for two years on another telephone line (a Telewest cable telephone outlet).
I think the message here is that the PAP2 (or at least my PAP2) is really marginal regarding the REN value that it will drive. I suspect that the other base stations I tried (including the second Zenia that is working) were lower in their REN requirements and that the original Zenia base station I tried was just a little to high to be driven by the PAP2 which suggests to me that the driving power of the PAP2 output is really poor.
