I called tech support today for an upgrade (my service has been fine but would like to get this annoying echo issue fixed). I have a linksys phone adapter RT31P2 firmware version 1.28.00 back from feb 2005. Obviously its not updating on its own.

The technician had me do a tftp test to Vonage which worked after I made a firewall adjustment but it still wouldn't update. So next he had me restore factory defaults then enter a username and password on the administrative page. Well this blew it up.

The phone adapter appears to be fine, internet works, internal network works but my phone doesn't work anymore. There is no dial tone and neither port 1 or 2 works, the lights don't even light up. I musta reset it 20 times all different ways and nothing works. On the status page it now says Offline for both ports.

I tried connecting the phone adapter directly to the internet with no firewall or NAT'ing but it still didn't fix it.

I went to this link, http://www.vonage.com/activate, entered my MAC address and it says its invalid. That can't be right, I've had Vonage for well over a year now.

The biggest pita is I have no way of contacting Vonage for help now. I emailed them for help but who knows how long that will take. What can I do?

when you go to http://192.168.15.1 status tab, voice tab, what does it say under Line1 and Line2?

I was sent a link to the newest firmware and instructions on how to install it. They left out the user/pass part however and I can't finish the upgrade. So I am stuck again. Has anyone had to do this manually before and knows the user/pass to complete it?

was having the same problems with a new install...

patience appears to be the virture though even when plugged directly into the broadband router...
According to Vonage's website if using a cable modem (so I don't know if this is needed for DSL) it requires turning off for 15 minutes to 'forget it's old settings' .... I am still trying to figure out WHY this worked precisely but when this was done, all equipment powered down for 15+ min, then modem brought up, left to connect, then wireless router, left to do its thing and power up completely until internet worked off it, then linksys Vonage router everything worked...including phone lights and all..

only other config change that has been done is the ports opened up on the wireless router + port triggering.... according to other posts that have been located in the forums...

It's my understanding the user/password has to be retrieved from a CSA.

I had the cable modem and phone adapter off for 8 hours straight but it didn't help. I tried the phone adapter from another ISP today and it doesn't update the firmware there either. I think its safe to say my particular phone adapter will not auto-update.

If I can't get this resolved soon I will probably cancel my service because this is ridiculous.
