PostPosted: Fri Mar 31, 2006 6:32 pm    Post subject: Problems connecting PAP2 adapter, BEFW 1154 Router & DSL Reply with quote Back to top

I have been using Vonage for a couple of months and it was great but I moved to a different address and haven't been able to connect.

I went thru all the wires and the rebooting of Vonage and router and the modem but that didn't work.

I have the PAP2 Vonage adapter, BEFW 1154 Router and of course the DSL modem.

Someone told me to change the ip and gateway address accordingly but I am not sure if he knows what he is saying.

Can someone please help me and please keep it simple as what to do ???

Thanks

Please post the technical details listed in the sticky post at the top of the forum. I gather the Vonage phone service isn't working. How about the internet service. Have you been able to get that going?

I wonder if there is a live chat available for Vonage users, that way you don't have to wait forever to get a response...

What about the other details listed in the sticky post? Have you, for example, tried a test call at testyourvoip.com?

The things listed here. Things like who your ISP is, whether it's cable, DSL, or what (yours apparently is DSL), how you have things cabled together, and so forth. As you've noted, this is a slow process, and the more you can give us all at once, the quicker we can try to help.

Did you also use DSL in your original location? Does your DSL require a log in? If so, is that being handled by your computer, or is the router set up to do that?

1. Your location Minneapolis, MN
2. Your ISP name and type (cable, DSL, wireless etc) Comcast DSL

3. Upload and download speeds 128k for upload and 512k for download
4 Type of Vonage adapter used PAP2
5. Setup of Network ie Modem---->Router--Vonage Adapter--PC
6. Issue you are experiencing , no dial tone
7. DETAILED results from www.testyourvoip.com with a test call to Boston. very good
Did you also use DSL in your original location? YES, Does your DSL require a log in? YES by my computer If so, is that being handled by your computer, or is the router set up to do that?

I don't know how it worked before, but I suspect that it isn't working now because the PAP2 isn't seeing the internet. I'd set up the router so that it logs into the DSL by itself, by setting it up to handle PPPoE and entering the password into it. Then I'd set it up as a DHCP server and set all my computers to get their IPs dynamically. That should work with the PAP2.

Hopefully some of the strong networking guys will jump in at this point and expand on all this.
