Post subject: Motorola VT2442
Hey gang,
I see
Vonage
has put up the Motorola VT2442 on their website... supposedly based on a TI chipset, but not the one which the RTP300 runs on. Has anyone seen one of these yet? I'm wondering if it'll have the same bugs and issues that the RTP300 has. It also looks like they've stopped shipping the RT31P2's again and are now sending out "refurbished" RTP300s! I guess, what did you expect for free, right?

Is there any difference in functionality between the RTP300 and the VT2442? If it is based on a different chipset what would the difference in the chipsets be?

Or for a highly inflated rip-off price, if you're already an existing customer! I thought used adapters were impossible to activate? Oh wait, that's only if you've picked up one at a much more competitive price and it looks like a threat to their adapter monopoly - neverrrrrrr mind!

Apparently after some issues with my old Linksys unit,
Vonage
is sending me out a VT2442 as a replacement. We'll see how it works. The tech told me both of the Linksys units and the VT2442 are in a pool depending upon stock.

I'm a new
Vonage
user and am waiting for the VT2442 to show up so I can install it. I did some reading on Motorola's site, but they just said how wonderful the VT2442 was.
I was actually hoping to get the LinkSys RT31P2 so I could make a nice neat stack. Oh well, I guess the important part is that the unit performs well...

Yeah, my Linksys WAP and Gigabit Switch will be on their own, but this will match my SB5100 cable modem from Mot. Does Motorola have DDNS like the linksys does? It's a very useful feature and nice not to have a software client doing the updating.

Post subject: Cannot log into VT-2442 router
Because of the ability to use the
Vonage
service while traveling and from most other locations, I recently signed up on-line, received the Motorola VT2442 adapter, activated it, and sent it to a friends daughter who is in Japan. The problem in a nutshell is that we cannot log into the VT2442 in order to set the static IP required by her cable internet provider. The system setup is:
Cable Modem -->
Vonage
Adapter --> Computer (imac)
The computer can connect to the internet when connected directly to the cable modem (with the proper IP set), but nothing works when it is setup as above (no phone, no internet).
We did change the computers IP from static to dynamic, and that seems to work. The VT2442 is 192.168.15.1 and the computer gets 192.168.15.2 assigned as expected. We can even successfully ping 192.168.15.1 from the computer.
However, when trying to connect to 192.168.15.1 via a browser... nothing. The browser reports that it can't find it. We have tried everything we can think of: firewall is off, power off - wait - then back on for the VT2442, computer restarts, reset button restart for the VT2442, and probably a few other things short of a hammer that I don't need to list here.
So, the DHCP seems to work and she can ping the box, but just cannot connect to it with a browser.
We have just spent over two hours on the phone ( REGULAR long distance to Japan) with a three-way connection to the
Vonage
technical "support". This was in the wee hours (my time) this morning so it could be at a reasoable time in Japan. I am a bit miffed with them as we were cut off several times and when I called back we had to go through the SAME troubleshooting process that I did with the previous guy. Each time they were no help, eventually transfered us to the next level of "advanced" technical support which played a recording saying that it wasn't available and hung up.
I suspect the VT2442 box is faulty, and will probably be some time before the system gets working... at least from Japan given our experience with technical support. She will probably have to send the VT2442 back and to a replacement. If this looks like it will be a long and drawn-out process I will suggest that she just cancel the service (still within their 30-day startup) and [maybe] start over later.
Any suggestions from someone more knowlegable than me (meaning anyone)? Any similar problems with the VT2442 in trying to set a static IP?
The
Vonage
package with the [almost] full load of features is very attractive. Hovever, this experience with their technical support does not cast them in a very good light.

I have the VT2442 and I can connect to mine. Are you sure that you have the ethernet cable "coming from your computer" connect to one of the "4 ports in back of your VT2442".
Login to "http://192.168.15.1" with username and password of "router" and you should be able to get to it.

Yes, tried on port 1 as well as the others. Even tried with another computer. Remember the DHCP and ping to 192.168.15.1 works, but just can't log in, and need to log in to set static IP numbers.
