I am having difficulty transferring a number with Verizon Voicewing Voip to Vonage. Vonage keeps emailing an error message:

"In regards to your number transfer request, your transfer has been
rejected because the number you requested was not found with your
telephone provider. Your local telephone provider may be reselling
your service through another provider. Please contact your provider to
rectify this issue. "

Any help would be appreciated. I telephone Voicewing to try to figure out what the problem might be, and they are not helpful. And Vonage customer service is the worst!

I had a huge problem transferring from Voicewing to Vonage.

Here is what the problem appeared to be with me.

Vonage was using my verzion landline service to verify the service address. Once I told Vonage to use VOICEWING and not Verizon the problem was fixed.

How long did your port take? I informed Vonage about voicewing right from the start, and it made no difference.
The CLEC which "owns" my number is Level 3, it turns out. Voicewing tells me that Vonage should issue the port out request to Level 3, and Voicewing gave me all of the exact information needed, right from the Level 3 web portal. But I just cannot seem to get Vonage to submit this information. I email Level 3 (who are very helpful) and they claim that Vonage has never made a port out request to them, so I have no idea what Vonage is doing, and apparently no way to correct it. Talking to customer service reps is hopeless, and even the escalations department seems ineffectual.
I wonder if I should cancel the transfer request, and start all over again, using Level 3 in the LOA. Grrrrrr......it would have been easier to change my damn number with my hundred or so contacts then go through this. If only I had known. At least Vonage has given me one month credit.
For anyone interested, Voicewing customer service is orders of magnitude better than Vonage. But the Vonage voice quality is much better, and that is more important to me.

I've been a Vonage customer for a couple of years now - no complaints. Recently I am considering switching to VoiceWing, provided the reliability and quality is similar, and if in fact there might be a few features they have that I could use. Would you advise against that, though, based on your VoiceWing experience? What caused you to switch to Vonage?

thanks!

We started with Voicewing, but the sound quality was not good. Background buzzing, choppy, and echos. The Vonage sound quality for us is MUCH better...nearly flawless (slight echo for first few seconds only). Voicewing has more features and its customer service is much better than Vonage, but without good sound quality, that is all meaningless. Try out voicewing without giving up Vonage first, and compare.

BTW, we finally gave up on the phone number transfer after three months. Vonage gave us one month credit, plus a refund of our $10 transfer charge. It is less hastle to tell everyone our new number than to deal with Vonage LNP personnel.
