so i just noticed that
Vonage
brought back the RTP300, but they are calling it the RTP300RB because they are reconditioned. Looks like they "fixed" them.

More likely they are recycling old stock until they run out. Still, the RTP300 is a good
Vonage
device.

i just signed up but then was bummed thinking i was going to get stuck with the rt31p2 (even tho the cs rep assured me i'd get the rtp300 my on-line order said i was being shipped the rt31p2). to my pleasant surprise, when my package arrived two days ago it included the rtp300, with a note from
Vonage
explaining how they'd upgraded me. at first i was happy (4 ports vs. 3, pretty blue lights!), but then i noticed a few things:
- kit did not include ANY of the original docs - no users guide, no setup guide - that a friend of mine got, who got his unit several months ago
- kit included only one ethernet cable, the yellow one, no sign of the blue one my friend got.
- kit did not include the setup cd my friend got.
- kit did not include the stand for setting the router on it's edge, a handy feature if you have limited desktop space (like me!).
- the box the kit came in was not a linksys retail box, but a
Vonage
labelled box, and it looked used.
in short, i think i got a reconditioned unit. to me this is unacceptable - part of the reason i signed up through
Vonage
was to skip the whole mail-in-rebate scam, but when i'm getting a used device with half the package missing instead of a new device with all parts present, it's not much of a deal.
naturally
Vonage
support was crap - their response was, "buy your own ethernet cable if you need it, download the manual, you don't need the cd, don't worry about the stand". completely missing the point that i was shipped a used, incomplete product, something that was not clear when i purchased it. i'm probably going to return the hardware to
Vonage
, cancel the service, then see if i still feel like buying a router retail.

For what it's worth, the stand has never been included.

Yeah, the stand has never been included. As for getting a refurbished unit, I would check with
Vonage
on the warranty. If it still has the same warranty as a new unit, then it really doesn't matter too much.
But anyway, why did
Vonage
get rid of the RTP300 anyway? I had a TON of problems with the RTP31P2 (including background noise, frequent reboots for no reason, and other minor issues) so
Vonage
agreed to replace it with an RTP300. This was last August and I've never experienced a single issue since with the RTP300 other than a couple of little known issues that were fixed in firmware updates shortly after I got the router.
