I am stuck in a Hotel Room with wireless Internet Access only. My WRTP54G is supposed to be an access point. How do I wire or configure my computer and WRTP54G router for Vonage Access? "They" say it can be done.

you have to reverse it. To make it work, you must have a laptop with BOTH a wireless connection, and a ethernet port. you also will need a ethernet cable. Heres what to do using windows xp-

1.go into network connections in the control panel.
2. get connected to the wireless network on ur laptop.
3. Plug the ethernet cable into the WAN port of the router, and the other end into ur laptop ethernet port.
4. Now in network connections, highlight BOTH the wireless connection, and the ethernet connection(called local area connection). Right click, and select "bridge connections".
5. Thats it.

that should work like a charm. If it doesnt, the hotel might have the ports blocked, in which case ur sol.

The bridge connections was the key and it works. I am stuck in South America so you just saved me hundreds of dollars in telephone calls.

I did notice that my Hilton Connection now says not conected and my linksys or LAN connection says Connected bridged. The network bridge says connected. Does that sound right to you ?

Anyway, it is working so I am not going to mess with it. THANKS a MILLION or acutally thanks a few hundred dollars a month.

haha, im glad it worked out. My policy is "if it works, count your blessings and don't touch a thing" But what you said sounds right. but just remember that ur laptop has to be on for ur Vonage to work.

Have fun in south africa!

My bad, I shut down my computer and when I started it up again I could not get a Vonage connection (Using the bridge connection technique).

Do you thing the WLAN and LAN firewalls have anything to do with it ?

Should I make any adjustments to the Linksys Router (via http://192.168.15.1).

Does the fact that the Linksys router show up in the wireless list effect anything. (The linksys router is my LAN connection) ?

Any further assistance would be appreciated thanks,

If your laptop is able to connect to the hotel's woreless network you dont need to worry about the Linksys router being visible. If your wireless router is interfering with your hotel network access it should be easy enough to disable the wireless function on the router, shouldn't it? You probably will have to connect to a LAN port on the router in order to get to the configuration pages but after that you can reconnect as abela2006 has recommended.

Again make sure you're connected Hotel wireless-->laptop-->linksys with a bridged connection in the laptop. Make sure you can access the outside world on your laptop's browser - usually you get served a page where you have to enter an access code once or twice a day.

good luck!
