I am in San Antonio Texas.
Using Time Warners Road Runner cable service.
I purchased two lines.
Router is lynksys basic broadband router.

Situation:
In office building.
Modem is not in my office. It pumps internet to multiple offices.
My office uses two macs.
Both macs on-line via wireless AirPort Extreme.
Airport plugged into wall's ethernet connect.

Vonage router plugged into different ether net outlet in next room.
(yes, outlet works and works well)
Spent 3, yes 3 hours on the phone with customer service.
Could not get the phone light to come on.
When router is plugged into the wall I can plug a mac into it and internet works fine.

Ideas please before I pack it back up and send it in and call ATT

It sounds like you have a NAT problem.

Please provide more information on the firewall/NAT devices in the network. Which devices use private addresses (10.x, 172.16, 192,168 etc)?

Read the sticky post regarding technical posting guidelines...

There are no firewall devices in the network.
Cable modem to airport to computer.
Cable modem to Vonage router to phone.
There are no firewall setting on any device or on either of the macs.

The cable modem is connected directly to two routers?

My office is in an old bed and breakfast. Each 'room' now office is hardwired for internet. It apprears there is one main connection to the building and they are using a switch to send internet to each office. From the outlet in the office I have the blue ether net cord to the Vonage modem.

It could be that from a NAT perspective:

airport = Vonage router = cable modem

Google NAT if you need more info. It basically masks one network's hosts into one IP address. Generally we see when the NAT is faced up the internet. A public address is on the WAN side (Internet) and private addresses, ususally a 192.168.x.x range, are on the private/trusted side.

My airport runs NAT. My cable modem, by default, runs NAT. I have an ATA which does not run it, but you have a Vonage "router" which typically means it does.

Double NAT'ing occurs when a packet traverses two NATs on the ways to it's destination.

Double NAT'ing a SIP packet usually isn't good.

I assume the Vonage "routers" work best as a stand-alone device in a home network that connect directly to a bridging cable modem. There might be a way to bind Vonage to the WAN port (modem side) of the router and not the LAN side (behind the firewall/NAT). This will make the router look more like an ATA. It doesn't sound like you are using this device for than the analog-digital conversion, you don't really need the "router" functions.

Use an ATA like the Linksys PAP2 behind just a single NAT (your cable modem) and it probably works.

That is correct the airport is not even in the same room.
Each room is hard wired. In one office I have the airport. In the other I have the Vonage router connected directly to the wall. Both running off (supposedly) the same internet connection.

It would be very helpful for us, in order to help you, if you took KnckrBckr suggestion in his first post and run the test in the sticky thread of this forum from the connection that you intend to connect the Vonage adapter to.

Then post the detailed results here.
