Once everything was transferred over and working well, I decided to try getting my home wiring working. Lucky for me I couldn't even figure out how to take the cover off the box on the outside of my house and i called a friend who installs home alarms. it turned out to be quite difficult. The reason appears to be that the guy who owned my house previously had done a bunch of his own wiring. My friend thought it was a matter of two many jacks or wires or something. But he managed to keep cutting wires until my extensions started working.
Just a heads up to others thinking about home wiring... I doubt you'll be able to call the telephone company to come figure it out!
conversely, my 90+ yr old house had two wires (literally) coming in to an old Northern Telecom insulator. I disconnected both of them, and instantly isolated my house from Ma Bell.
