Has anyone managed to get a download with the latest version?

I cannot get it to work at all, Sometimes it hangs at 99%, but most of the time it completes but results in an empty Excel file.

I wrote to Steve but haven't heard back from him

Does anyone have the previous, working version?

Vonage was nice enough to add a "next" link to their last page of results. Clicking on that link gives a page with no results but has yet another "next" link, and so on.

Since I was keying on the "next" link to indicate whether there were additional results to fetch the program is looping endlessly over empty result pages.

Vonage has added a count of the number of results. I should be able to use that field to determine if I have retrieved all of the results, but it is going to take me a little time to implement the fix.

Ah well, this is the inherent problem with screen scraping. Hopefully there are no other 'suprises'.

OK, it appears to be functional again. To be completely honest it has been a long day and I didn't really do a lot of testing before I uploaded it, so if accuracy is critical you may want to separately download a day or two of data and verify it yourself.

If I get a chance tomorrow morning I will do some real testing myself.

You may need to force an update. Instructions for windows follow;

Run Java Web Start (Start->Run...->javaws)
Select VonageActivity
Click Launch Online

You should see it check for the latest version and download a new VonageActivity.jar.

If you have previously downloaded the jar manually and are running it locally, I encourage you to attempt to run it via Web Start at http://vonage.otabi.com/activity . Otherwise simply download the new VonageActivity.jar and replace the old one.

I didn't know if it was the tool or my box here - with so much on my PC anymore, I can never be certain!

I thought I would ask here to see if anyone else was seeing that. If not, I figured it must be my PC.

Hanging at 99% again for about 5 or 10 minutes now.

Still not working.

The best I can get is to 99%. But no data actually ever hits the Excel file - that file is created but no data is placed there.

What happens to the supposed 99%? If it all isn't downloaded, it all gets dumped? Or is that progress bar bogus - just eye candy?

99% would be better than a completely empty file.

The last 1% is the creation of the Excel file. You have actually downloaded all of the data. The problem is/was that the program doesn't realize that it has all the data and keeps trying to download more so it never creates the Excel file.

I am not certain why the fix didn't work for you. I am sitting in the hotel lobby hanging out until I need to head for the airport so I am going to do some testing on my system.

What method do you use to run the program (e.g. click on a shortcut, click on a local copy of the jnlp file, issue a java command)?

Do you know how to bring up the Java console? If you do, when it hits 99% can you type 5? It should display a list of the URLs being accessed. This may tell me what is going on. If any errors are being generated they should appear here as well. Typically the console can be accessed from the Java "coffee cup" in the system tray or from the control panel.

Where is the data going? iAn Excel file is always created, but with 0 bytes of data - it is an empty file. The app shows "Received" going from 0% to 99%, then it changes to "Placed", which also goes from 0% to 99% but staus there. As I said, the Excel file is created and dated correctly, but no data goes to it.

I don't know either, but I tried it on both of my PCs, and I get the same result. I don't believe it's my router or firewall, as nothing as changed there, plus it wouldn,'t get to 99% then.

I used to double click on the desktop icon that your app creates, but lately I have been running it from the Start>Run prompt and typing in javaws, as you mentioned in an earlier post. All that does is open your app - looks athe same as when I use the icon.

When I use Start>Run, that does bring up the java console, but I don't see where you say I should type in the "5". If I just type 5 nothing happens at all. I see nowhere to enter anything on the console itself.

OK, I just pulled down some data.

The Activity Download must be limited somewhat in how much data it can bring down at once. I was trying to get two years of data originally. I changed that and just downloaded the last year and it came down fine, it appears.

Now I tried the whole two years but excluded my first day of service - got 2600 lines of data. Does the app perhaps start the search at a time of day that precedes when my service actally started that day? Would that void the search?

Anyway, I think I have it all now! Very Happy
