I just had an alarm system installed and the phone hook through Vonage seems to be problematic. The alarm is dialing out - calls appear in the Vonage call list and the central station does receive them. From this, it appears that the RJ31X is probably installed correctly. However, there are 2 problems: 1 - the alarm won't release the line which the installer said probably means that the call isn't going through 2 - the central station did receive the call but did not get any information I do not know if the install added any prefixes (i.e., *99) to the dial out number which is a 1-800 number. The bandwidth saver is set for the highest quality setting (90 Kbps). Hoping someone here had some thoughts on this. Thanks! |

Were your house phones working after the alarm was installed but before it called out for the first time? |

Yes, the phone was working (well, dial tone at least) prior to the alarm system dialing out. Once the system dialed out, the only way to get the dial tone back was for the installer to reset the alarm system so it would release the line. |

Once the alarm has been reset the phones work all right? And the situation repeats if the alarm tries to call out again? If this is the situation, I'm afraid that you're going to have to get help from the alarm supplier, because your Vonage setup is doing everything that it's supposed to . |
