I have horrible quality with tmy new wifi phone at home. How can I improve? I have the bandwith saver at the vonage.com page in NORMAL 50kbps but the call quality is really bad: there are sharp sounds and cuts and the other person can barely listen to what i say and the same on my end. Additionally if I call other Vonage users the connection is even worst. Here is the info you guys ask for.. thanks for your help:

1. Miami, Florida
2. Comcast Cable
3. 6.0 Mbps down / 384 Kbps up
4. Motorola SB5120
5. UTStar F1000
6. SB5120 --> D-Link DI-624 (Rev. C) 802.11g --> PC With wireless lan card
7. Choppy audio, terrible voice quality

Can you check on what CODEC you are trying to use. There are 3 that are supported in the WiFi phone. g.711 works best if you have the bandwidth (it looks like you do). g.729 works ok and is the best choice when bandwidth is tight. g.726 (the middle bandwidth choice) has a lot of compatibility problems with different gateways and does not work so well. If there are 3 choices of bandwidth/voice quality - try the one at the top or the one at the bottom - NOT the one in the middle.

my f1000 was supplied by Vonage so when I go to the web configuration utility it won't show the codecs. Do you know a way to find which one I am using?

I do not remember the specific setting - but you can set this from the Vonage web site. There are voice quality choices - low, medium, or high, I believe. Medium is the one with the problem. The other two are OK.
