Currently using an RT31P2 that has problems. Thinking of going to a different router and Uniden UIP 200 telephone. Was wondering if this phone will work with Vonage or are they only supporting equipment that they sell (like the UIP1869V)?

You can only use Vonage supplied Voip phones or phone adapters. There is currently no way around this.

Thanks - I could have guessed that one, but thought I would ask.

I have the V Tech 8100-2. It is wireless, dedicated to Vonage only and come with two phones. Vonage had a rebate (guess they still do) that made the system really cheap. It works GREAT. I bought two additional phones.

I did not want to rely on my house wiring at all.

Can you clarify this? You're making it sound like people must use Vonage-supplied Voip phones in order to be able to use Vonage. This obviously is not true.

I'm not the OP you're quoting, but it is true that you must use Vonage sold Voip phones on Vonage's network. They don't provide SIP credentials and have locked the adapters to their networks. Even with the UTStarcom wifi phone, Vonage won't activate one not purchased from them. You can work around this I believe with if you subscribe to Vonage's SoftPhone (where you have the credentials) but this is a more limited plan (500 total minutes for $10/month) than the other 'closed' offerings.

What?!? None of my phones are Vonage, and one is even a corded Ameritech phone from the early '90's, and these all work fine.

What I said was that if you want to use a Voip Phone it must be one that is branded by Vonage. You can use any POTS phone with Vonage, provided that you plug it into a Voip Phone Adapter that is also branded by Vonage.

You can not go out an buy a Voip phone (Cisco, UTStarcom or even the Uniden UIP 200 that the OP mentioned) and use it with Vonage. They will not support that. In other words... There are no Compatible Voip Telephones (see the topic title) other than the Voip Telephones that Vonage sells.

And none of them are VoIP/SIP phones - those are analog telephones, which will work just fine with the Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) you are using from Vonage. A Voip phone usually refers to a SIP phone, or IP phone, which will not work with Vonage for the reasons listed before - SIP credentials.

Well, at least you cleared that up. Your original post seemed a bit confusing; hence my asking in the first place. Smile
