PostPosted: Mon Mar 27, 2006 5:31 pm    Post subject: Three Lines/Numbers in One House - How Many Adapters? Reply with quote Back to top

My brother and I have Vonage, and now my father is looking at it. However, he has multiple numbers in his house (probably because my sister still lives with them).

He's got three separate phone numbers, one of which is a fax line. He'd like to port his existing numbers and switch to Vonage. Normally, an RTP300 like I've got has two phone ports into which he'd connect the two main #'s; but what about the third line? Would he need another adapter?

And if he signs up online to take advantage of the referral, can he order two adapters this way?

In order to get three lines on Vonage you would need to have a second phone adapter.

I am not sure how it would work on a referral on signup. He could sign up and get the first adapter on the referral. And then buy the second one locally. I am not sure if he would still be eligible for any rebate on the second adapter or not but it may be worth a try. At least you would not be paying shipping for the second adapter.

As I understand it, you would need 2 adapters. As you can have up to 2 lines per adapter.

You would get only the Vonage rebate on the first adapter, the second will cost you money.

But if you buy your adapter at Circuitcity.com, or a circuit city store this week for $60, you would get $110 in rebates back.

Theoretically, Vonage will not give you their rebate, as you are already a customer. But Circuit city will. Then, at least, you would get $60 back, or the adapter for free! But, you can not consistently count on rebate getting paid. I get only about 50% of my rebate, and still fighting with Compaq to get my $50 they have own me since Nov. It has been a total waste of time sending in and faxing in proof of rebate, and they told me that it has been in the mail for over a month!!

a suggestion..

only go for 2 Vonage lines and keep 1 line from the telco ... just strip off all the extras and use it only for fax/tivo/alarm-system it will make your life easier dealing with voip... because if your on a Voip call and it starts to get audio drop-outs etc you can always transfer the call to your real telco line.

Yeh, I agree. My sister has problem with reliable faxing. If your business (legal or medical) depends on all faxes coming through, you can not afford one or two large clients - who can not fax to you. Apparently when a company relies on Voip somewhere in their network to fax to you, you might get incompatibility issue... Then all your faxes might comethrough bad, or not at all... So then what??

I think it is safer to rely on a land line, if you must have all faxes relialy coming through.

Second, if you need 911 to reliably work (retirement center or a vaccination clinic)... Can you really depend on E911?
