I have been a Vonage customer for the last 3 months. Their service is so good that I even disconnected my POTS line. LNP was smooth and only took 10 business days. The only problems I experienced were getting my ADT alarm working and having to put external modems on my DirecTV Tivos. My only gripe with Vonage is that their "international" rates to Puerto Rico are ridiculously high, considering that all US long distance companies consider Puerto Rico a domestic call. I also felt that I was missing call blocking features.
So along came VoisePulse with a very impressive set of features. I bought a Sipura ATA that came with a free month of VoisePulse service. I forwarded my Vonage number to VoisePulse and have been using them exclusively for the last few days. I am as happy as a California cow, and so is my wife. Voice quality is excellent, we can not tell the difference from Vonage or from POTS. We no longer receive anonymous calls, and the do not disturb feature rocks. My wife goes to work really early so she goes to bed early. She hated when friends called after 9:00 PM or when relatives in a different time zone called too early. They woke her and the baby up every time. Not anymore. VoicePulse also lets you do 7-digit dialing, so no more 1-area code for local calls. Call filters and call hunt are also very nice features.
The only problem with VoicePulse is that they don't have LNP or E911 yet, and my ADT alarm and DirecTV Tivos do not work with them. But their other features work so well that we must have them. Yesterday I called SBC and asked them to port my Vonage number back to them on a $5/month measured line. I added call forwarding to that line. Now I will have a POTS line for real 911 service and for my alarm and Tivos. That number will always be forwarded to VoicePulse. By the way, we also have a BroadVoice line configured on the Sipura but their service did not impress us. Their voice quality is also excellent, but that was it. |

txcas: What is a "measured line?" How did you find out that SBC has that available? |

Will Vonage release your old number? I'm not sure they have to. |

A measured line is as cheap as you can go with SBC. It is about $5/month and it only includes 25 outgoing phone calls. In my area calls in excess of 25 cost 8 cents each. I went to www.sbc.com and started a new residential service order, but did not submit it. That way I was able to get pricing on everything. |

I have done the same thing. The features that VoicePulse offers ROCKS. I have converted my landline to a measured service line ($7.00/month and 2 cents per min for all outgoing calls. Comes to $15 per month when yo tack on all the FCC charges and taxes). It stays permanently forwarded to my VoicePulse line. I still have my Vonage line as well, but I think I may cancel it now (two weeks w/VoicePulse and not the first dropped call or ATA lockup!!!)
One thing to consider that may save you a couple of more $$$ with SBC- pay per use call forwarding. My landline provider offers call forwarding on a per use basis (75 cents per use). Since I never unforward, it has cost me a total of 75 cents one time cost for call forwarding (versus $3.50 per month). |

Didn't mean to upset anyone. There are disadvantages to VoicePulse as well. I would encourage anyone looking at Voip to evaluate their needs and options. |
