I have been using Vonage for over a year.
A few months ago I added my home phone and I am now all Voip from home.

In the past 10 days or so the outbound quality has been *really* poor (I am told.) I can hear people fine still, but apparently sometimes i cut in and out to the point where its unusable.

No changes in the home LAN in that time and I cant figure out **** is going on here.

Here are details from the requirements post:

1. Your location
- Northern California
2. Your ISP name and type (cable, DSL, wireless etc)
- Comcast cable
3. Upload and download speeds
- dslreports.com speed test result : 8104 / 709
4. Modem make and model
- Terayon TJ 715 Cable Modem
5. Type of Vonage adapter used ie RT31P2 or PAP2
- Linksys PAP2
6. Setup of Network ie Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC
- Modem --> Linksys WRT54G --> Vonage Linksys PAP2 (no PCs connected to PAP2)
7. Issue you are experiencing ie dropped calls, choppy audio etc
- (see above)
8. DETAILED results from www.testyourvoip.com with a test call to Boston.

Maybe you should just plug the adapter to the cable modem first. If it works fine, maybe you'd need another router/switch?

Oh, the other thing, maybe you might want to try a new patch cable between the modem and the adapter. If all works well, then try a new cable between the router and the adapter... It could be one of the pins is loose, and has poor contact. Before you go and buy a new router...

I agree. Also try plugging your computer directly into your modem and repeating the Voip test. Your dropped packets on the uplink are too high. I suspect an ISP issue, but we should take a look at how things look when you eliminate the things for which your ISP is not responsible.

I am curious...During the times where people notice your voice cutting in and out, were these calls you placed to them, or made to you? The reason I ask is I noticed the problem only on outbound calls. The moment the party called me back, the problem was clear every time.

I have recently purchased the Hawking Broadband Booster. I really think it has consistently helped my outboud calls. I've run lots of testing with it and without it and I think it really works - not a VAST improvement, but noticable.

What kind of device is this broadband booster, and what does it boost? Do you suppose they make one that boosts customer service, or even creates it? Wink
