Hmmm.... getting pretty frustrating, espeically for customers calling...
My Vonage business line incoming calls SOMETIMES go directly into voicemail.... not one ring (on the incoming caller's phone) and not one ring here.
Sometimes the phone works just fine as it should... rings here like it should and is answered and works fine...
I thought it might be a particular phone that was causing the problem (I had the line that came out of the RTP300 split)... but it's still doing the same thing occasionally with just one phone attached.
I have a 1.3 Mbps connection... so I don't think the speed is an issue...
It's getting pretty frustrating for customers calling and getting dumped right into voicemail... and it's frustrating for us too, because we know we are not using the phone....
Would turning off call waiting have any effect? can I even do that?
Any insight would be helpful.
Thanks! Dusty |

I don't know about call waiting, but what happens if you turn off voicemail all together? |

Thanks for the reply...
I turned off call waiting shortly after I posted my origional post, just to see what would happen.
It seems I went all day yesterday without a complaint that my phone went right into voicemail....
Going to continue with the same settings and setup as I have now to see today if I have the same results.... then I'll add my other phone into the mix and see if things continue to be good.... If we don't have any problems with it by the end of the week, I'm going to blame it on call waiting...
Then maybe I'll turn call waiting back on and see if I have a problem again..
Will keep ya posted, thanks! Dusty |

Sounds like a good plan. If it does turn out to be call waiting, a messgae to Vonage about the problem would be a good thing, even if you don't need it for yourself.
By the way, did you reboot the system after this problem started to see if that would fix it? If not, it's something you should try. |

Re: reboot
Yeah... every time I would get a complaint about being dumped right into voicemail, I would reboot the system... evidently, that didn't do the trick, cause it continued to happen.
Things went fine yesterday... (or seemingly so) I'm going to plug my other phone in today and use it that way the rest of the week.
*crossing fingers*
Thanks! Dusty |

Well the issue started up again end of last week after plugging in my second phone.
Sooooo I unplugged the second phone again... rebooted the Vonage router again... ran that way for a while.... same thing started happening with just one phone... and the call quality had gone in the toilet... choppy voices on the other end of the line, delays in response, etc... getting frustrated as heck by this morning, when a new client (pretty big client) calls and I never heard a ring... right to voicemail.
Sooooo I forwarded calls to my cell phone while I messed around with things... I re-arranged my wiring set up and got the router directly connected to the dsl modem... I now have things set up that way and everything else comes out of the Vonage router....
have made a couple of test calls and have had a couple of incoming test calls... things seem to be better... but for how long???
Trying to get thru this between work here at the shop, cause I don't want to be on the phone with Vonage for hours if I can sort it out myself...
Thanks for reading...
To be continued.... |

Just another update...
Yesterday morning... service was out completely for a while... couldn't get a dial tone, nothing...
Once it came back (magically I suppose) everything seemed pretty good, better I might say as far as calls getting thru and voice quality... (did Vonage do some upgrading or something?).
Today, I try to make OUTGOING calls, and the call rings until the other party picks up and then nothing... dead.. on either end...
Reboot, reboot, reboot... same thing... reboot, reboot, reboot...
Magically, things seem to be working again... arrrrrggghhhh!!!!
This on again/ off again is just not gonna cut it.... *sigh* |

Just for giggles, run a few tests from www.testyourvoip.com and post the best and worst results here. |

From Boston to me Media Quality MOS 2.3 / 5.0 (Best with G.711 is 4.4) Degradation Sources Codec 0.58 21.6% Latency 0.00 0.0% Packet Discards 0.09 3.3% Packet Loss 2.01 75.1% Codec G.711 (PCM at 64kbps, 20ms RTP payload, 80kbps IP BW) Round-Trip Latency 170 ms Packet Discards 0.3% Packet Loss 6.1% Loss Periods Min: 20 ms Avg: 20 ms Max: 40 ms Random Loss Jitter Min: 4 ms Avg: 8 ms Max: 43 ms Signaling Quality Post-Pickup Delay 82 ms Call Setup Time 91 ms Media Delay 115 ms
Funny tho, that while the download is happening, phone calls seem to be working just fine for me... |
