It would be nice to hear if anyone has been able to port their line and keep their DSL. No one at SBC will admit if they're offering naked DSL. I don't want to try it unless I know there's a chance it'll work.
Thanks.

Nope - they won't let you do this. If you want to keep DSL and port your number, you'll need to have a second line installed, bring DSL up on it, disconnect DSL from the first line, and then port the number.
I loved my DSL service, and would have even paid the expense to keep a bare-bones landline installed just to keep it. However, the complexities and expense of jumping through hoops to move the number just weren't worth it. I ended up moving to a cable broadband provider - which made everything simple and cost me nothing. Of course, my inet connection has been down more in the last 3 months on cable than in the last 3 years on DSL... |

Thanks for the info. I would expect as much. We already have a second line installed in the house so, at some point, it may be worth it. But, I don't need the complications right now either. And I agree about the reliability of DSL. Since SBC ironed out their initial growing pains several years ago, the connection has indeed been rock solid. While Charter cable seems to be a crap shoot.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
