Please help installing Vonage/PAP2/BSNL

I have BSNL with HUAWEI MT841 type modem cum router.
It has DHCP enabled.
I'm able to browse internet through my PC. **I have to connect every time to logon** But when I connect PAP2 to MT841, I see the internet light on PAP2 lit, but the phone line is not being lit and hence no dial tone.

-I tried setting MT841 to static IP - didn't work
-I tred PAP2 setting to both static and dynamic IP and it didn't fix the problem.

How do I change my broadband to have it connected all the time instead of dialing into each time I login.
Any help appreciated. Thanks

You need to talk to your ISP and ask them how to set up the router to handle the log in functions so that it stays on line all the time. It may involve something like enabling PPPoE and putting your password in the router. As long as you need to log on using the computer, I think you'll continue to have problems.

I was finally able to figure out the problems and everything is GOOD now. Here is some helpful tips:

The problem is, you need to configure your MT841 to work as PPPoE. (In lay mans' terms - PPPoE is a connection that is setup once, will stay on all the time). BSNL technicians do not set this up by default, they use some thing like Bridge setup, in which you have to dial-in to connect to the Broadband every time. This is not always on connection. With this type of setup, you cannot expect Vonage phone adapter to work.

To setup MT841 as PPPoE:
1) Open the browser and type the url
This will take you to MT841 administration console.
2) Type username: admin and password: admin in login window. (admin is the default username and password for MT841)
3) Click on Basic ->Connections on left panel. You will see a table called: WAN Configurations.
4) Delete the existing PVC0. To do this click on edit icon (Icon in the column called "Note"), scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "Delete".
5) Now you will create a new WAN configuration. To do this: click on "New" and enter the VPI/VCI value as 0 / 35, enter the username ( Example: username@dataone) and password given by BSNL. Click "Apply" and then Click "Save All", you will get prompt "OK/Cancel", then Click OK. This will reboot your MT841. This will take 2 minutes.

This will complete your PPPoE setup. I suggest to restart your computer now and test the internet connection without having to dial into BSNL. If you are able to connect to internet, your PPPoE setup was successfull.

Now connect the Vonage Adapter to MT841 and power up Vonage Phone Adapter and wait for 2 min, you should be all set.

i am trying to configure these two to work together, to no avail:

Vonage linksys pap2 (i had used it in the US and it was working fine)

bsnl smartax mt880 huawei (this is a functioning adsl modem).

the bsnl modem is on PPPoE (always on - no need to dial in).

when i take the ethernet cable from mt880 and connect it to pap2, the pap2 on/off light blinks thus - one long, followed by two short strobes. no other light comes on. i have tried to do the 80#, the static-ip (somehow it just does not accept the subnet mask, it always keeps it at

please help me.

PAP2 has to be DHCP.
Try resetting PAP2 to default and have PAP2 to acquire the IP dynamically.

Basically you will get the PAP2 to factory default and restart it.

If it still doesn't work, check the assigned IP of PAP2 and verify it with DHCP IP assigned by your Modem. They both should be same.
