So, Vonage has put thousands of counties on the E911 service. How do I know if mine is one of them? |

From your Vonage phone dial 933 and see what it says. |

This is going to sound dumb, but do it slowly and make sure you actuall dial 933 and not the real emergancy number. I've hear of this happening to quite a few people in their attempt to see what their service is. |

I cant recommend that anyone actually dial 911 unless it is an actual emergency. Check with your local 911 administrator before dialing 911 just to test the system. If you dial 911 and it is not an actual emergency, you could be breaking the law and may receive a stiff fine. |

Hmmmm... The robot on 933 says I'm connected. I e-mailed the local 911 folks and got a nice long reply from a human. He says I'm not! Guess I'll just have to wait for till the house catches on fire to find out for sure. I never put much stock in this 911 business anyway. |

Did the robot say you have "911 service" or "enhanced 911"? There's a difference. The "911 service" message points out that you need to give the responder your address and telephone number. |

If this is the case, none of the communications from Vonage are making that very clear.
I just assume that I do NOT have any 911 service from Vonage, and keep a POTS line just for that.
Personally I can deal with this, but I have two grandchildren who are here at my house a lot and I don't want their Moms to have to try to figure out whom to call and what info to give if they happen to get some Vonage hack when they call 911. I'm not certain who answers when you call Vonage's "standard" 911 service, but I do not feel that they are as well-trained as our local 911 EMS folks! |

If you have Vonage's "basic 911" service, the call still rings at your local 911 center, but the person who answers will not have your address and may not have your phone number.
If you don't even have "basic 911" service your call rings at a national center manned by Vonage employees trained for this job (let's hope it's not in India... )
What message are you hearing when you dial 933? |
