Greets!
Everything I've read on this forum says that in order to wire the home for Voip service to all existing jacks, you need to isolate (disconnect) the wires that are incoming from the phone company. I get the feeling that when you are using DSL, things are going to be otherwise.
Any and all opinions welcome. |

If you have DSL and are going to be keeping it, things are a little more complicated.
Basically you need to isolate the incoming line from the Telco that provides the DSL and get it to your DSL modem.
Then you want to proceed as commonly discussed to have all the jacks you want to work with Vonage connected together in your house but NOT connected to the external world. Then you connect the Vonage adapter to one of those jack and phones to the others. |

Ok bear with me as I have been reading posts and am getting a feel for some of the information but I have a few questions if someone can help.
All is set up via my cable modem via my Wireless router to my phone router. Lights on are power, ethernet #3 and phone#1. I have a phone with a hand held I see talk on unplugging and wire changing at the box not sure what to do next as my phone says SEARCHING. Any help would be great ...... Thanks Matt |

Hello, Mcfitt, welcome aboard. You've posted this in the hard wiring forum. You might do better to re-post it in the Voip forum where more people will see it. Also, you should include the information listed in the sticky post at the top of that forum.
In the meanwhile, if I understand you correctly, you have a wireless router hooked to a cable modem, and a Vonage adapter plugged into that. Correct so far? Which Vonage adapter? Phone 1 light is on, which normally means that you're up and running.
Here's where I lose you. What kind of phone do you have, how is it connected to the Vonage adapter, and what is or is not working on it? |
