Good afternoon. I just upgraded and installed a new router in my home. It is a Netgear WPNT834 RangeMax 240. When I try to use my Vonage phone service, I get a dial tone, which sounds fine, however, when talking with someone, every other word from them is being dropped. I didn't have this problem with my previous router. Would like to get this fixed with this one as I get more speed and range. Any suggestions on what I can do to get my calls to sound normal again?
Thanks for the help. |

the top post says this: Sticky: What to post when having technical trouble with Vonage....
that's your best suggestion. posting what you used to have just might be pertinent also. |

I had a Dlink DI-634. I also had the old Cisco Phone Adapter that I got directly from Vonage when I signed up years ago. I switched to Linksys PAP2 phone adapter and the Netgear router. Don't understand why I'm getting the choppy incoming voice.
One thing is that I dont' have port forwarding activated. Don't know if I need to. My Vonage bandwidth voice setting is set at the middle.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks. |

If you don't setup PF you won't know it's not the problem. Move the pap far away from the router. |

Just curious...
What will moving the PAP far away from the router do? How far would be good? Also, why would I not be experiencing this problem with the other router I had/have?
Do you think I should set up port forwarding also, or just attempt the move for now? |

port forwarding isn't the problem. your choppy audio would be nonexistant audio if it was. what you should really do is follow the two sets of directions (which advise the exact same thing) instead of plodding along giving little to no information that anyone can use to help. |

So you changed two things, the router and the adapter. After answering Reebok's questions, the first thing I would do is try to determine which change caused the problem. Temporarily remove the new router and plug the PAP2 directly into your modem. Do you get good call quality now? |

I'm glad it's working, but it would be nice to have it work with the new router. You've established that the new PAP2 is working correctly with the old router, right? When you hook it to the new router, have you tried setting up that router to give QoS preference to the PAP2? |

Debugged a new router causing choppy voice last weekend - turned out to be UPnP. Turned it off and it fixed the issue completely. Mine is a different router from you, but this is simple to do and worth a try. |
